Galactic Civilizations III v1.4.1 Changelog (Released 11/5)

***Released 11/5/15***

Summary

In response to your feedback, we are allowing you to optionally use the old planetary production wheel through a pref.ini setting.  In addition, this patch addresses an issue with old save game and fixes other game play bugs.

Please read Brad Wardell's thoughts on the production wheel and where we are headed:

  • Go to My Games\GalCiv3

  • Open Prefs.ini

  • Change UseColonyProductionWheel from 0 to 1

  • Start GalCiv3

+ Players will no longer be able to game the diplomatic trade screen to get millions of credits

+ Players will no longer start with the assault fighters starbase improvement.

Wow, surprised to see it come back- the wheel that is. Good job making it optional under the circumstances. I'll probably use a combo of the two, wheel for certain planets and governors for others that I don't care too much about. Any need to start a new game with this update?

You don't need to start a new save game.  However, you'll need to start the game and quit at least once to see new option in your prefs.

Note that this option is global (galactic?).  You either play with the wheel on all of the planets or none.

Small clarification: even before this patch, you could choose to to directly place improvements or have a governor build the planet for you.  You use the foci (or planetary production wheel) to control how the planet's spending is allocated.

Pshaw, I just recently started a game. I am loath to restart a new one. I currently DID notice I have assault fighters on my modules at start. Will this patch fix the issue or will I have to restart a new game?

Also, will we still be able to TRADE specialization techs if we want to pick up ones we did not research?

I will not be turning this on. Hopefully multiplayer will enforce the same planet wheel settings. Keep in mind what is happening here, folks. By turning this on you are acknowledging that Stardock does not have to field complaints about balance or micromanagement regarding the planetary production wheel. The de facto answer will be "you are the one who decided to enable an unsupported game mechanic, so we are not responsible". On the other side perhaps it will open up modding opportunities, which I'm looking forward to seeing.

Unfortunately, fixing the assault fighters issue is a data change that is baked into your save game.  You would need to start a new game to get that fix.

Yes, you can trade for tech specializations.

Meh, thanks. Ill just keep on playing my current game. Thank you! If I do NOT enable the def.ini file it will play as the developers intended, that being how it currently is in 1.4.

If you don't change the pref, then yes the game will play the same as it did in 1.4

Cool, thanks.

Yes, I noticed that in your original post.

Copy that. Looking forward to checking it out.

Thank you for giving the option to get the wheel back.

I'd like to explain why I feal that way. Yes, the micro management was/is a hassel and I only really use it when it's a close call. In my oppinion the new changes didn't make micro managing impossible, but just more of a hassle. Situations still can be a close call, after the changes   |-) But now I've got to switch screans constantly to get the optimum. As it is right now it feel like you forcing me to play the game a surtan way.  While they know there an other better way. It's like you're in a cassino. You can count cards, but you don't cozz you know the owner doesn't like it.   :S

To add uppon that... yes, the wheel is gone, but the rest of the game didn't change. With out the wheel the game it leaves a hole in your interface and it feals less intuitive. I fear new players may experience this to, but just get disorianteded.

Okey, I don't want to overflow ya guy's with suggestions, but I will give a some examples to show what I'm talking about. From the planet screan you shoundn't need to go via the gallactic map screan in order to adjust the planet wheel and back again to check the results; if I adjust the wheel I should be able to see the effects on all worlds in one go. Why does the right side interface disapear when I go the the coven menu. If it remeaned and I had the colonies tab open I would have seen the effects of my wheel turning on the building que's. Why isn't the all world wheel where to single world wheel used to be.

Me = big fan. I've played Galciv3 for like nearly 500 hour now, watched all the def streams and I am loving what you guy's are treing to do, but plz plz with sugar on top turn your attention to this problem for a bit more. :pout:

I also posted this in the user video thread - but I'm posting it again here.

The 1.4.1 update must have changed the preference order in which the game saves - I am saying this because I keep a number of different saves for different games and one of these was my "Galaktik Brikwars 2 Elektrik Boogaloo" youtube series. While I was playing saturday morning in a different save I regularly use - the game decided that instead of saving the game to its usual location, it instead over-wrote the Galaktik Brikwars series save, autosave and previous autosave and as a result that playthrough no longer exists. and I have been forced to bring the series to it's end.

There is nothing to do about it, but I decided to let you guys know.

I'm going to go and mope for a few days before I pick a different game to make a series in, Gal Civ 3 playthroughs have burned me too many times now.

Sorry to hear that you lost your save games.  I'm not aware of any changes we made in 1.4.1 that should have affected how games are saved.  Can you submit a ticket (https://esupport.stardock.com/index.php?/Tickets/Submit) so we can take a look?  Thank you.
