Star Control Origins v1.3 (released 12/6)

Hey folks,

Welcome to Star Control: Origins v1.3! We've improved your flagship's controls, added new content to explore, and added new weapons to the crafting menu. Please read below for details.

Features

  • Discover hints of a Scyve super weapon that can shatter planets.
  • Improved controls on the flagship to make it feel more responsive
  • Discover new weapons for your ship that can be found by investigating alien ruins and crashed spaceships.
  • Added new weapons to the Crafting Menu including the Frag Missile, Rapid Laser, Flame Thrower, and the Heavy Gatling Laser.
  • Added a "replay battle" that, on defeat, allows you to continue the game without doing a reload.

Change Log

  • Added option to disable AI fleet coordinator for fleet battles before a battle starts.  You only get to pick once as after that things are all setup and there is no UI again.

  • Increased the deceleration of the flagship, making it more responsive and less drag.
  • Increased the rotation speed of flagship by 25% in Solar System/Hyperspace.
  • Increased the rotation speed of flagship(in combat) and the free pickup ships to make them feel more responsive.
  • Added new weapons that can be found by investigating alien ruins and crashed spaceships throughout the galaxy
  • Added new weapons to the Crafting Menu including the Frag Missile, Rapid Laser, Flame Thrower, the Heavy Gatling Laser, and more.
  • Fix for a broken/crashed Jeff.

Guys, imagine that I have already visited 1/4 of all stars currently available in the game. Will i be able to find the new parts required in order to assemble the new weapons in the unvisited star systems? And what about the hints? How can I find them???

I suggest (and it shall pertain to Earth rising too) the following: if you add new stuff - already visited stars (if they contain such additional items/conversations etc.) shall change @colour@ to the one that @unvisited@ stars have. Or the only option will be to start over from the very beginning in order to discover new stuff and some players do not want to start from the very beginning.

What do you think about my comments?

The "assembling pieces for a super weapon" note was in error.  I've removed it.

Yet, I like your idea for re-colorizing planets.  The trick is we don't want to give too much away. I'll mention it to the team (no promises!)

I was actually talking about stars changing their colour :). Another way is to give some hints in the quest description/information - like look for it somewhere in X area/constellation.

Anyways, my goal is to visit all available stars and planets. So sooner or later all stars will change their colour but at the same time I do not want to miss new quests (I have finished the main quest line anyways) simply because I have visited all stars/planets :) .

yea, I'm not sure why I wrote planets.  Stars would be the way to go :)   I really need to refrain from posting before coffee....

Dear Stardock,

Words cannot describe how disappointed I am that my ship now runs into a thick wall of mud every time I try to move forward.

The game is RUINEEDD!!!!!!!!!************#########

Suggestion:  please change the gameplay tab to include an option to switch to freeflying in space.  You know...the way space actually works...

I have waited too long for a star control sequel to see it ruined like this.  Please fix it.

For further clarification, are you complaining specifically about changes made in 1.3?  Because ever since initial release your ship has slowed down when the engines turned off.

Honestly it'd be cool if already visited & plundered places could slowly regenerate Resources so one did not have to worry about grabbing everything in the Galaxy & then having nothing left to make bucks off of...

Plus this could also double as a way to get new stuff like what's in this Update in places ya had visited before & avoid missing out on it. It's a living breathing moving Galaxy out there. Stuff can easily be not there the first time ya visited then happen to end up there later then get found by a return trip imho. ;)

Any ideas on when 1.2 and/or 1.3 will be available for the GoG version? There's no response on the GoG forums.

Thank you for replying to my rant.  But my feelings are genuine and the situation is real.  I had to log in to a new account because stardock has a limit on replies from a initial account, which I made only because of this issue.

I bought the game on initial release.  At this time, after taking your finger off the acceleration key, the ship would coast forward for about thirty seconds or even more before slowing down to a near stop.  HOWEVER, it would continue to coast forward, like a car going into neutral.  Yes, it would slow down, but GRADUALLY, very very incrementally.

NOW, on v1.3, the spaceship stops dead the very instant that I take my finger off the button.  This is completely unimmersive.  The whole point of the gradual zoom into the different planets as you approach them is to appreciate the starcontrol universe.  Now, if my ship can only go 100% or 0% and nothing in between, I'm stuck at the broader view of the solar system, and never get the gradual zoom in feature, which I thought was super cool.

This spoils everything.  Ships should continue to move in space after the engines turn off.  STARCON used to do the right thing.

SUGGESTION:  give a gameplay option to allow the ship to coast forward.  PLEASE.
