Folder Portal clickthough stopped working

Switched on the PC this morning and I can no longer click through to folders within Folder portals.

If I double click a folder inside a portal, it opens up the folder in a normal window instead of opening up the folder within the portal. Have I nudged a setting somewhere by accident or is there something else being screwy?

Hello,

Sorry to hear you are having issues. Try enable the "Allow navigation" on the Folder portal 3 line menu.

Try the purge and reinstall steps : https://forums.stardock.com/486084/fences-support-faq#reinstalling

First, you can backup your layout using this steps : https://forums.stardock.com/486084/fences-support-faq#backupsnapshots

Than do the purge as above. And make sure to re-download the latest version from your account. Reboot after the purge. Reinstall and reboot again. Retest and report back.

Thank you,

The link to the Purge_Fences.bat file does not work. Any other way of obtaining this script or some other manual way?

Hello,

I just download it without a problem. Please try another browser or another Computer.

Thank you,

Hmm. Seems it's my router that doesn't like it.

Tried IE, Edge, Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Opera,  on both PC and Mac and it would just hang. Seeing if I can find some other location I can download it from.

Okay...

Managed to Download the purge file via my phone,  ran it, reinstalled 3.09 and created a brand new portal on a clean screen and still have the same issue.

Oddly enough, I can still create a brand new folder within it, rename it but opening just opens up a new explorer.exe window.

Hello,

Sorry to hear you are having trouble.

If you create a new Windows Admin account, does it happen under it?

I'm not keen on moving my profile over though. There's way too many things I need to reconfigure if I use a new profile. Would rather not use Fences if it came to that.

It may be prudent to disable any AV software you are running under your main profile or any windows shell (Windows Explorer) replacements / extensions.  If that fails, a total clean boot (under the main profile) might be in order to see what app or setting may be preventing Fences from performing properly:

I tried the clean boot and even went to the trouble of disabling all startup programs, explorer extensions and scheduled services but sadly none of that worked.

While I have logged it internally, it's a mystery to us why it did work forever under you main profile - but does not now - and under a new profile.  It just seems to me to be a third party app or setting but profile specific.   If you do find that something you change resolves it, please do let us know.

Yeah. It's a really odd one. I do have a lot of explorer extensions so that could be something to do with it but the extensions are in the other profiles too and everything works fine in those. Just went through all the suggestions above again, disabled everything I could except fences and it still won't work. I don't suppose there's a debug mode I could take a look at? Any instructions for a manual purge?

I know this is a 2 month old thread but I am experiencing EXACTLY the same issues

However I just purchased Fences 3 so Folder Portal navigation has never worked. However, I loaded another users Windows account and it works.

I just need to figure out what is causing the conflict.

I have directory opus (but have temporarily uninstalled it - navigation still doesn't work. Strangely when I did have DO installed if the Navigate folders is turned off double-clicking on a folder will launch DO - which it is setup to intercept Explorer calls. But when navigation is on the same action opens up Explorer - which is a little strange)

I have also turned off Dropbox, Googledrive, Onedrive and Kaspersky to no avail.

I wish there is away to figure out what is happening. The Folder Portal navigation looks awesome!

I have same issues after clean install OS today.

Hello,
Sorry to hear you are having issues. Sadly, I can't recreate this issue on my system. Need more information.

1) Windows version. Please use winver.exe for full version numbers.

2) Fences version.

Thanks

What happens when you open folder in Windows Explorer - does it also open new windows there?

I"m fairly sure its a certain software that is conflicting with Fences.

  1. When I create a new user Fences click through navigation works
  2.  Only on my account does this have a problem
  3. I use a Win 10 Desktop and Laptop. Both machines are logged in with the same account and both have the click through issue.

My only guesstimate of programs that might affect it is:

  1. Onedrive - unlikely as this would affect the other user
  2. Google File Stream
  3. Dropbox - the newer version can launch a quasi File Explorer replacement
  4. Directory Opuspossibly the most aggressive. BUT I have uninstalled the program and problem assists. funnily when Directory opus is installed AND the folder navigation is ON - clicking on a folder launches DOPUS. But with the navigation OFF File explorer is launched instead. Note: Directory Opus is configured to intercept File explorer calls (I have tried turning this OFF as well but same results)

I just started with exactly same problem. I can still go into files and use alt to Move it to desktop. However I can no longer make rectangle and click on create portal.
