Has anyone read a good book lately?

I recently read the 5th Harry Potter book, that was pretty good.

I also like the LOTR series (as do most who read it), Ender's Game and all related books, the Redwall series, and I'm currently reading the Dune books...they're awesome

Try any book by Clive Cissler featuring the caharcter "Dirk Pitt", thaey are all excellant.

Anything by Orson Scott Card, Peter F. Hamilton, Jack L. Chalker, Charles Sheffield.... I could go on, if my memory were better..... 

Clive Cussler is really good. Stumpy, have you read the Kurt Austin books he has wrote? They are really good. He co-writes them with someone else.

I've finished the "Winter King" trilogy by Bernard Cornwall and one can see the way the author has planned the series.
The same writer's "Starbuck" ACW series are occupying my interest right now .....

I read a lot of science fiction/cyber punk/etc., but lately I have the urge to brush up old skills. It keeps me up to date. So today I read 2 books (1 tiny one) and started in a third one. All 3 social science related. I will not bore you with any titles.

I do read books about computer science too. If you are interested in games optimization AND PC history then read "Graphic Programming Blackbook" by Michael Abrash. He worked for both God (John Carmack) and the Devil (Bill Gates). I have to admit that I read Donald Knuth's work. Sorry about that. Volume I, II & III didn't take a single day to read.

And if I can't sleep I read a few pages of Tolkien and I am gone...

Excellent books!! 'The DaVinci Code' is a good one. The 'Sharpe' series by Bernard Cornwell is enjoyable, Wombat. The Terry Goodkind 'Sword of Truth' series is great. Finally a subject that I can contribute to(English Lit degree!!)

Thanks. I will be looking for some of these. I had heard a lot about Harry Potter but I avoided those books because I thought they were for kids... maybe not?

I also like Anne Rice... her vampire series is good, and there was another one "Cry to Heaven" about the castratti in Venice in the 1800 that was very good.

I think I read a Necromancer book once, it was intense. Thought provoking, though. Scary, a little. Writing was very good.

IPlural, "Good Omens" is GREAT! I heartily recommend all the Neil Gaiman books, including "American Gods" and and "Neverwhere." My eternal thanks to AJCrowley for turning me onto him.

Currently, I am plodding my way through Harry Potter V (Order of the Phoenix) and Stephen King's Bag of Bones. King's Dark Tower series has been reissued and the first book rewritten. Might be worth checking out again.

David Hagberg coauthored a good one with Ludlum (I can't remember the title off-hand). I've read a couple he wrote solo, latest is Assassin.

movies from books are rarely any good unless you see the movie before reading the book.

Grisham's "the Firm" was really interesting and intricate while the movie certainly wasn't - Tom Cruise didn't help much either!

What are books? I haven't read a book in a long time. Other then skimming my computer books to look up how to do certain things. Or a comic book like Another Day In Cubicle Paradise by Scott Adams (Dilbert). Yes, I am a computer person. I don't even like to take written tests, I prefer them to be computerize. School is going to be a pain because I found that I have two classes of compisition in my two years there. , Yea I'm complaining.
