Licensing, I hate SAAS, I'd buy a lifetime license

Hello,
I've been a nerd a long time so I've been familiar with you guys forever.  To be honest I miss litestep  
Anyway right now I really like your suite of software for what i need, especially since shell modifications seem to be dying thing.
I'm writing this to say I am considering purchasing a yearly license of Object Desktop, but it really rubs me the wrong way.  I'm an open-source kind of guy, but I'm willing to pay for good software.  I appreciate companies who let me purchase lifetime licenses, which to be honest, can sometimes be risky for software.

I'm just saying if you had a lifetime license I would have probably purchased object desktop already if it was reasonable price.
a 1/yr SAAS has me looking at every possible alternative.  winstep, rainmeter, and other stuff which is good, but not "together"

Just imho, as a guy who used to go buy a floppy disk and owned that disk, that's what I want here too   :)

SasS seems to be the way of the world these days. With Windows being updated every month with more and more AI and other changes, lifetime licenses don’t really last all that long. They’re usually only good for the version you buy, and then you have to pay for the next version upgrade. Software version upgrades are becoming more frequent because of the pace that Microsoft updates Windows.  Windows 25H2 is just a few months away, and who knows what software it will break.

With this, SaaS becomes a more reasonable purchase when you consider how much you might pay for multiple permanent licenses just to keep up with Windows updates.

Yeah, unfortunately, I have to agree with you.

 

Honestly, if I weren’t a gamer, I’d have been running Linux for the past 25 years. Dual booting is a hassle, and while Linux gaming has come a long way, there’s still a noticeable performance hit—especially frustrating when you’ve spent good money chasing that last 10–15% of performance from a high-end GPU or CPU.

 

Situations like this kind of box me in: either I sacrifice performance and switch to Linux, or I shell out for something that doesn’t quite line up with what I want. And while Linux is, in many ways, vastly superior to Windows for people who like to tinker, it can also be a major time sink. I’m getting too old to be wrestling with stuff that should just work.

 

I guess my main point is this: at the current subscription price, I’m going to take my time evaluating every possible alternative. Just being honest.
