Ande, if you have to turn your head 45 degrees when using the vert taskbar, then you have some real monitor or video card problems

Reason I was asking was that Ive gotten 95% done with my GUIO submission...Only to find that the current start button (which looks more or less 'great' in the default position)...looks like crap when its put up on the Vert taskbar.

Looks like Ill have to re-do it...

In SkinStudio, theres a section under 'Tool Window Borders' called 'Titlebar Buttons - Classic'...

Would I be correct in assuming that these are the min/max/close buttons for the Tool Window Border?

I don't get the 'Titlebar Buttons - Classic' when I start out a Uis2 skin. I get Tool Window - Close Button Image and Tool Window - Close Button Glyph.

The buttons EventHorizon refers to show up if you open a new Universal Skin Format (USF) skin. And yes, they are the min/max/close buttons for the Tool Window.

I've always used the taskbar on the left border. There are some really cool skins (copperdeck for example) that I can't use because of my eccentricity.

I would try to keep your old design for the normal one, with a surprise for vertical taskbar users.

this is a real pain....99% of the users doesn't use the vertical taskbar...but if you don't do it, the 1% will screem quicky.

I hate to make the vertical part, the only time I use it is just when I am setting it on a skin.

That %age just about fits my experience with users of Windows in general.

I've never understood the wish to use it that way myself as the taskbar button text is horizontal, and so you either have to have it drastically truncated or give up a large section of one side of the screen. I suppose if you often have many different windows which would be identifiable from just their icon, then you could shrink the bar very narrow and then have more space for lots of different apps just one click away...sort of.

I don't enjoy skinning the verticle taskbar either (it's difficult to make it look good IMHO)........... heck I really don't care much about skinning the horizontal taskbar either. I find the Windows taskbar dysfunctional....   I much prefer setting up a taskbar the way I want it to work, using HvD or DX, etc...

Well, I guess, I'm part of the 1%. I frequently use the top and side taskbar. It's more functional of how I work.

The only time I use the bottom taskbar is for taking a screenshot of it.

Z71....... My taskbar is always at the top of the screen, whether it be the Windows taskbar while skinning it, or whatever. I never have liked it on the bottom.

I concur with Koasati on the position of the taskbar. It makes far more sense being on the top where most programs also place menus, etc. To place it on the side just takes up far more space than the horizontal taskbar. Perhaps once widescreens become more prevelent it will make sense to use a vertical taskbar, though by that time the taskbar may be passe.

Thats what I like about Macs. The taskbar is at the top! Big plus for that feature.

Silly for you. Works quite well for me using autohide. As a matter of fact, I often set up a number of toolbars (not so much lately now I've built an ObjectBar that does what I want). If I have 3 or 4 (or more) toolbars showing on the taskbar, there is little room for tasks with a horizontal configuration. The whole point of Windows Customization is to be able to set things up as they work best for you. Otherwise we might as well stick to the classic GUI.

In the event this seems argumentative, it's not intended to be. Simply my opinion.

...ditto for my joke about the vertical config calling it "silly". Good point on the auto hide...I get round the same issue by having 2 monitors, and all the extra toolbars go on the 2nd screen
