The Prancing Pony

The welcome sight of a tavern greeted the weary traveler as he moved within distance of the town. Having traveled for many days, he longed for a cool mug of ale to slake his road-thirst.

As he approached the inn, he could see a sign of a fat pony rearing up on its hindlegs. The letters, THE PRANCING PONY, was painted in white.

The common room was large and rowdy. A bald and overweight innkeeper stood bent over the counter, whispering the latest gossip into the ears of a patron. On the benches were various folks, the local drunks for most part, but in corners of the taverns, he noticed there were groups drinking by themselves.

Setting himself down, the traveler handed a couple of coppers over to one of the bar wrenches for ale.

“Welcome to the Pony.” The traveler was mildly surprised to find a sprightly old man next to him, holding his gaze with keen eyes that belittled his obvious antiquity.

“Thank you, and whom do I have the pleasure of addressing?”

“Folks around here call me Ray and I do enjoy meeting up with newcomers to see if there is any assistance I could render.”

“That would be great, Ray. I would love to learn about the people who reside in these parts.”

“Ah, that’s a frequently asked question and one I’m well qualified to answer. There are a couple of factions here in Meta that you will want to watch out for.

The Pirates are currently dominant. Not the most refined of speakers but they are a jovial bunch, with a particular weakness for good drinks.

The Diplomats hold power in the Courts. Their courtiers are many but they don’t really mix with us common folks.

The Farmers are our working class. Hardworking and honest, they are however on occasion given over to overly elaborate festivals and celebrations.

The Galahs are a group of seafarers. They are also good trainers of livestock.

The Warlords are our warrior class. Their love for long campaigns leaves them frequently out of town.

The Spiders monopolise our merchant guilds. They are by far the most invertebrate bunch of traders you will ever see.

Far to the north, the Undead holds a death grip over the wastelands. I would caution you against traveling down that road.

There are many other smaller factions around, but I leave the details of those to Barley our bartender.

One of our tavern regulars, Gerakken the Spymaster, is also in the know with regards to many of the factions. So do buy him a drink if you want to find out more.”

“Thanks for the insights, Ray. But how about yourself, which faction do you belong to?”

Smiling to himself, the old man stood.

“Come round the Fellowship Halls tomorrow morning and I’ll show you around.”

Alex,

Seems like you got promoted to Veteran for your efforts with the missing library file.

Well done! :CONGRAT:

Yes - I noticed that this morning. Does it really make any difference?

Thanks for the congrats...

:D You sound delighted.

Actually yes, you get to access a new forum, the Galactic Council. Nothing too exciting there though.

What's with the Galactic Council? It showed up in my forum list yesterday, but I don't see it there today. Is this typical behavior?
Nope, it's always there for me. Try logging off and on.

A: Anti-matter missles come with Dreadnoughts Technology
you'll have to get Interstellar Tactics:
Def Theory, Weapons Theory, Phasers, Deflectors, Shields, Space Militarization, Energy Channeling
BattleShip Tech:
Antimatter, Warp Drive - something else?
then exotic alloys, large scale building, planetary defense, and - several other techs to get to Dreadnought Tech

B: Anti-Matter destroys everything it touches, so to use it as a weapon, you'll need to know who to pack it into a small device and deliver its payload to the designated site.
Anti-Matter power plants are suppose to harness the power of anti-matter and that requires a different technology all together.

C: All ship bonuses, weapons bonuses, apply to AMMs, build a shipyard, a ship foundry, and all the other good stuff and watch them go.

Yeah I think GC UP sanctions ALL trade. That is rather foolish.

So every event is equally likely to occur?
End of quote

Yes.

Does adding more events decrease the probability of any individual event occurring?
End of quote

This is the logical conclusion. I have about 150 events at this point, thus achieving my goal of rarely seeing the same event within the same game. There are events I've still never seen pop up for me, while others pop up semi-regularly for whatever reason.

Hey, folks:

Welcome to Cotal and any new members of the Fellowship! I'm reeeeeally busy in RL, so I haven't been very actively posting lately.

I haven't received any suggestions about the Fellowhip's website, so I'm guessing everyone's pretty cool with it. I kind of wanted to add a "biography" section, but I'd need everyone to submit your RPG backstory (like I'm a warrior from Rohan). It would also help to add if you're male or female (RPG and RL). Sometimes we don't know who's a "he" and who's a "she", and it might help us get to know each other better. Please Note: I'm not asking for any personal info...well except for the gender thing. :)

To start the backstory off, here's me:

Theoden of Rohan (formerly Barry Light)
Male Warrior

Theoden grew up in a small farming village with his parents and 5 brothers. As with most males of Rohan, Theoden was in awe of the Rohan military and the monarchy. As a matter of fact, Theoden was named after King Theoden. At the age of 13, Theoden began training in the art of the sword. Though not the best, Theoden gradually became well versed in combat. Upon his eighteenth birthday, Theoden was accepted into Rohan's infantry. After serving for several years, Theoden began yearning for adventure. And so it was that he joined the Fellowship of the Ring, and their battles with the Canadian Undead and the pirates of G.R.O.S.S.

I'm tempted to join Yog Sloth's empire (temporarily, purely as a joke, of course) and spam a couple GDI communication and recruitment threads onto the board. Fortunately I'm too mature for that.

H50, I assume there's no way to raise overall event frequency?

Not that I'm aware of. I'm hoping the new cheat functions will include something along these lines.

I didn't see a cheat to force some random event to occur. Frogboy's list I would assume would be a complete list of cheat options.

Time to head home, gang. Everyone have a great weekend, if I don't drop in (usually don't on weekends).

I've got a game close to finish, so I might submit tonight. Until then, happy gaming!

By the way, updated the Player Roster a little...

Is it just me or has the Metaverse been tweaked to display all the text at a ridiculous size? It's like something for seriously vision-impaired people. Not that I'm complaining.

Well, just submitted my little bomb...pushed me into the Top 100, but that's definitely not going to last. But hey, #99 for a little while is kinda nice! :)

Cracking the top 100 even once is nothing to be ashamed of. Used to be there myself, then this scoring beast called 1.05 came along... :SURPRISED:

Take heart Theoden...great oaks from little acorns grow (thought that was suitably Fellowshipish). Commitment is the key word...I was a lowly two-hundred-and-something once, and then I found the secret was

Welcome to the Fellowship, Bradley!

Do drop by and say hi to everyone.

Theoden, I note that your bio is the only one to grace the Fellowship's roll call at present.

Seeing as how I'm about 5 Jack and Coke's down right now, I figured there was no better time to type up a brief bio of my on-line persona. ;)

A halfling hailing from the lush green hills of Waimanalo, HawaiiFive-O is an alchemist of some small skill. Fiercely loyal and fond of hearth and home, he shuns confrontation and prefers to observe from a distance. His natural skills of stealth serve him well as most of the large, loud denizens of the Metaverse pay little attention (pun intended) to one of his slight stature. His childhood fascination with what makes things work continues to manifest itself in his present life, as an investigator of the inner workings of the universe we find ourselves in. Though unwilling to loudly trumpet his presence, his clear thinking and command of logic has earned him the title of Diplomat - he serves the Fellowship in this capacity as they explore their new reality.

OK, so I'm the second. Who's going to post their bio next?

What's this then? Will it be OK with Metaverse? (I left a mod in on my last play, hence the anomolous!)

The story is in this thread, Alex http://www.galciv.com/forum.asp?BID=GF&id=83883

EBZeroMatrix perfected a technique to churn out Beginner Smalls at about 10,000 pts a game for half hour's work. Wombat is his disciple.

Arcrest, the mage, walked, quaking in his boots, trepidation in his heart, to the lair of the only dragon in that part of the world. He'd spent years learning enough "true speech" (the tongue of the dragon) to even make the attempt, and to develop his skills and his magical powers, he needed a new mentor.

Would the dragon condescend to speak with him, making him a dragonlord - or would he end up as takeaway "Unlucky Fried Wizard"? The last three people he knew who'd tried this had not returned. He looked around - there were three distinct piles of char near the cave mouth. From one of them, a charred skull grinned eerily, almost challengingly.

With fear so gut-wrenchingly intense that he was near to wetting himself, he entered the cave. A basso profundo voice from the darkness said "Tell me your true name"....
