The Prancing Pony

The welcome sight of a tavern greeted the weary traveler as he moved within distance of the town. Having traveled for many days, he longed for a cool mug of ale to slake his road-thirst.

As he approached the inn, he could see a sign of a fat pony rearing up on its hindlegs. The letters, THE PRANCING PONY, was painted in white.

The common room was large and rowdy. A bald and overweight innkeeper stood bent over the counter, whispering the latest gossip into the ears of a patron. On the benches were various folks, the local drunks for most part, but in corners of the taverns, he noticed there were groups drinking by themselves.

Setting himself down, the traveler handed a couple of coppers over to one of the bar wrenches for ale.

“Welcome to the Pony.” The traveler was mildly surprised to find a sprightly old man next to him, holding his gaze with keen eyes that belittled his obvious antiquity.

“Thank you, and whom do I have the pleasure of addressing?”

“Folks around here call me Ray and I do enjoy meeting up with newcomers to see if there is any assistance I could render.”

“That would be great, Ray. I would love to learn about the people who reside in these parts.”

“Ah, that’s a frequently asked question and one I’m well qualified to answer. There are a couple of factions here in Meta that you will want to watch out for.

The Pirates are currently dominant. Not the most refined of speakers but they are a jovial bunch, with a particular weakness for good drinks.

The Diplomats hold power in the Courts. Their courtiers are many but they don’t really mix with us common folks.

The Farmers are our working class. Hardworking and honest, they are however on occasion given over to overly elaborate festivals and celebrations.

The Galahs are a group of seafarers. They are also good trainers of livestock.

The Warlords are our warrior class. Their love for long campaigns leaves them frequently out of town.

The Spiders monopolise our merchant guilds. They are by far the most invertebrate bunch of traders you will ever see.

Far to the north, the Undead holds a death grip over the wastelands. I would caution you against traveling down that road.

There are many other smaller factions around, but I leave the details of those to Barley our bartender.

One of our tavern regulars, Gerakken the Spymaster, is also in the know with regards to many of the factions. So do buy him a drink if you want to find out more.”

“Thanks for the insights, Ray. But how about yourself, which faction do you belong to?”

Smiling to himself, the old man stood.

“Come round the Fellowship Halls tomorrow morning and I’ll show you around.”

EBZM,

Saw your post where you said you are burnt out.

Have a well deserved break (and fun with Moo3) and come back here and play. I miss competing with you. :)

EBZeroMatrix credit where it's due, your a master, a meostro, a 'legend' and our greatest Nemisis! I'm sorry if you took my initial comment the wrong way ( i.e. run to the hills! etc).

Forgive my clumsiness . . .

Btw, I never do post much, nor repetitive posting, but Ray, I'll catch up someday, I think it's that time of the year when things start shifting worldwide. A lot of crazy stuff has been going on, and people seem to be on the verge of change. I myself noticed that I am pretty much tired in general. I suppose I need more rest, or something. But for now, I'm in a state of mind where everything is so stagnant that it's really dragging my motivation down for anything.

Whoops, I forgot which is the abbrev. that you didn't like.

EBZ the philosopher? :D

I know you are not asking for a diagnosis here :) but those are classic burnout symptons to me. Try to spend your time on other things and recharge your batteries. Take a holiday or do something that really wanted to do but couldn't.

Hope to see you back to your old self soon.

Heh, I am very good at this deep thinking type of stuff (suprisingly ;p ). My daily routine keeps my mind sharp and in check (though I haven't done it much latley).

Yea, that would mean for me to travel back to the US and get married to the most wonderful woman I will ever know (*Sighs 3 more months, and counting).

Sensei - recharge your spiritual font as you worship at the shrine of Jennifer.... ;)

ricbayer - I think you'll notice when EBZ publishes that there will be differences in versions when you consider how long it takes to finish a game. I'm still playing 1.05, and it takes me around an hour - that's getting right through to Final Frontier; the tech speed is much quicker, I understand, in the 1.09 beta and this style of gaming will be faster. This style is ALL about commitment and cranking - it wont suit everyone, but will be a useful addition to those who feel frustrated taht they can make it to maso/gigantic and still want to help their team.

I don't personally find it to be much quicker. The 1% difference in premium over the base tech cost doesn't really change things significantly.

Interesting. Looking forward to learning from you once the GCCG is published.

EBZ, Ray, and Wombie:

I've read the Orion Strategy, but I'd like a little clarification. How do you get through the techs so fast? I try cranking research up to 100%, but still takes a long time. Granted, I occasionally move the slider to try building up my military strength or to get a crucial trade good/wonder, but it seems to take me a long time to get through the tech tree. :notsure:

I personally don't want to 'crank' but would like to get through the techs a little quicker. Any suggestions would be appreciated! :)

Orion Strategy Guide by Ralegh and Gibbie.

I usually get a couple of maxed out research resources plus the research TGs. Getting Terra Computers and its accompanying research techs early helps too.

EBZ: LOL

Ray: So you're cranking Constructors and maxing research resources early? I'm usually trying to build Corvettes early so I can get my Military rating up high enough to keep the AIs off my back. :notsure:

Actually, I don't build constructors until I get Anti-Matter Plants up and running. Else they take too long.

Along the way, I will build up those resources. I try to get my population up in the early game. More pop helps with research among other things.

I have looked at most of Fellowship metaverse scores and am curious as to favorite sizes of galaxies, habitability, and star density. Perhaps you can share your thoughts on why you think certain maps are the most fun. Of course, variety is fun too. Thanks for your comments.

Rick,

I play all kinds of sizes. I would say my fav is Medium to Large. I also tend towards either Rare or Abundant habitability. Almost always played Tight as Scattered really takes a long time to mop up for a military victory.

Besides morale and SE/HI, what more can you do?
Get Aphro, Improv Env Control. Keep morale at 100% for as many planets as long as possible.

Well, I'm tired of Maso and would be dropping back to Crippling. Anyone want to suggest a scenario for me to play at that level?

I was thinking of choosing the most useless party and picks I can find at the setup and play with that. Hard for me not to go with speed + 1 though.

That's not the first time, Theoden. He resorts to that when he knows he can't outreason someone.
End of quote

Please. Coming from a total hypocrite, and proven as such on our thread, I'll take it with a grain of salt. I can and have out reasoned the likes of you in a heartbeat. That is the problem you have with me. You expect to lay out what you wan't on every subject you wish, and not even have to live up to your own standards or be questioned in any way. I have news for you junior, the world doesn't work that way. Get used to it. You don't expect to be called on it. Too bad. If you don't like it, Also too bad.

Yes it is theoden, which is why I cannot understand his behavior. But that doesn't mean I have to tolerate it either.

Nor will I pull the absolutely childish, "I'm not posting on your thread anymore" or the "I'm not talking to you anymore" that he did.

Although perhaps you are right on one thing Theodin. I probably should just pass over his whining and not pay any attention to it.

Egads GROSS is winning! Aggg! I shall double my efforts and give 200%! Is that possible? or should I say 150%? Is that double? Or is 100% all I can give . . . mmmm, now I'm confussed and I think I feel a migrain comming on, mabye even an Anyerism Alternatively if I double my efforts and thats 100% it can only mean I was giving 50% befor and an therefor a 'slacker'! . . . I apologize therefor for my laziness! I can relate to PontiusBruinPilot mentality, people say I aslo lack a degree of 'tact' . . . hehe. He can (from what I've seen) be quite charming when it suites though . . .
End of quote

Actually my behavior is not dictated by what suits. It is not dictated by what I think others will think about it. It is dictated by what I think is right, and what I think is the truth. Some, have a problem with that.

You're far from a slacker. I encourage people to play when they want and how much they want. How can you be a slacker at a game? I would think those of us who play more are the real slackers. Not that being a slacker from time to time is a bad thing.
