The Prancing Pony

The welcome sight of a tavern greeted the weary traveler as he moved within distance of the town. Having traveled for many days, he longed for a cool mug of ale to slake his road-thirst.

As he approached the inn, he could see a sign of a fat pony rearing up on its hindlegs. The letters, THE PRANCING PONY, was painted in white.

The common room was large and rowdy. A bald and overweight innkeeper stood bent over the counter, whispering the latest gossip into the ears of a patron. On the benches were various folks, the local drunks for most part, but in corners of the taverns, he noticed there were groups drinking by themselves.

Setting himself down, the traveler handed a couple of coppers over to one of the bar wrenches for ale.

“Welcome to the Pony.” The traveler was mildly surprised to find a sprightly old man next to him, holding his gaze with keen eyes that belittled his obvious antiquity.

“Thank you, and whom do I have the pleasure of addressing?”

“Folks around here call me Ray and I do enjoy meeting up with newcomers to see if there is any assistance I could render.”

“That would be great, Ray. I would love to learn about the people who reside in these parts.”

“Ah, that’s a frequently asked question and one I’m well qualified to answer. There are a couple of factions here in Meta that you will want to watch out for.

The Pirates are currently dominant. Not the most refined of speakers but they are a jovial bunch, with a particular weakness for good drinks.

The Diplomats hold power in the Courts. Their courtiers are many but they don’t really mix with us common folks.

The Farmers are our working class. Hardworking and honest, they are however on occasion given over to overly elaborate festivals and celebrations.

The Galahs are a group of seafarers. They are also good trainers of livestock.

The Warlords are our warrior class. Their love for long campaigns leaves them frequently out of town.

The Spiders monopolise our merchant guilds. They are by far the most invertebrate bunch of traders you will ever see.

Far to the north, the Undead holds a death grip over the wastelands. I would caution you against traveling down that road.

There are many other smaller factions around, but I leave the details of those to Barley our bartender.

One of our tavern regulars, Gerakken the Spymaster, is also in the know with regards to many of the factions. So do buy him a drink if you want to find out more.”

“Thanks for the insights, Ray. But how about yourself, which faction do you belong to?”

Smiling to himself, the old man stood.

“Come round the Fellowship Halls tomorrow morning and I’ll show you around.”

I'll start the bidding $20 (US) for just one additional meta verse rank for 100 000 plus points :D. Stand back! I have a Credit Card in my hand and believe me, I know know how to use it! . . . I'm being semi serious here . . .

What goods money anyway? You just end up spending it on food and clothing.

Nastavnik has a low ID - 581. Let's see if he gets a recalc. Current scores 4483/4462.2

Nastavnik has been recalculated.

Well, I can say with certainty that IceMole, ID 1553, has not been recalculated. My list score will be 64073 with a 13th calc, 64312 with a 14th calc, or 64671 with a 15th calc.

Rear admiral rank. Drool...

I'll add US$20 into the pot.

Well, well, well. I think IceMole deserves recognition for spotting our latest major meta-recalc.

That could be the reason why Theoden said he got upped to 91 rank without submitting. A dormant oldie did get recalced down.

Seems like recalc will increase your score, IceMole. Does it basically reward active players and penalises dormant ones?

Close to what? Rear Admiral?

Don't think they have been implemented, EBZ.

BTW Quack, I think I got my Veteran together with Staffa due to that over the "trade goods nerf/traded techs not showing up in research log" incident. Frogboy probably felt bad and decided to up us to Vets.

If it is not that, it's probably because I'm a fanboy. :D

I heard there was a fellow who got promoted as compensation because his harddisk got wiped by a buggy version of Stardock Central. Some compensation. LOL

I laugh all the time at the stories Killa writes about me (for those parts I understand :P).

The effect is completely dependent on the pattern of submission dates and scores. However, in general, on average, score potential should increase for 15 days after the most recent submission, then sink for 15 days leaving the score much lower at 30 days post submission.

Of course, with so many potential score patterns, the max can occur almost anywhere within that 30 day period. My highest potential, for instance, will occur September 3 with 73583 list points.

Well, I'd rather people contribute money to the campaign, instead of food that's rotten by the time it gets here, or clothes that don't fit me. :)

As for my two cents, I wouldn't mind seeing more long-service stripes for the game-churners. Another medal for winning on maso (the level no-one was supposed to win on, IIRC) would also be nice.

Actually, I'd like to see the scores for getting the medals bumped up. They might have meant something on the original scoring system, but 1000 and 3000 score cut-offs are nothing nowadays.

I would've thought a Purple Heart would be more appropriate there :-p

Thats a good point 'mass demotions!'. Well its gotta happen (original wins were what about 200 tops?)because I mean there are only a few higher ranks left. I mean there really is no where to go after Field Admiral except maybe Galactic Emporer, but the Empires already have a title like that . . .

know what I mean?

Wow! That's a good 17% increase from your current score, IceMole. The monthly blocks do really make alot of difference, don't they?

I believe that was the intent. That's why the difficulty for Maso keeps getting upped even though there is only a handful of folks who still play at that level. AFAIK, the only beta tester who managed to beat Maso then on Tiny was Solitair. That's why I feel Frogboy dislikes Maso gamers like myself. Probably thinks we are trying to break the system or something. :D

Alright Kit, tell me now.How many 25k games does it take for me to reach 200k?
End of quote

Kit, if you are going to take up the challenge of computing my targets for 200k, assume that I submit a 25k game every 3 days from my last submission.I know I'm a sucker for punishment.

The real sucker for punishment is the moron who actually works this out... ;p

List score breaks 200k September 6 with 205059

Player page score breaks 200k September 12 with 202640.5

A few minutes ago, when I got to Ray's original post, I pulled up his scores and grabbed my calculator. Then I thought about how much time it would take me to get the answers. I'm glad you did it IceMole. Now I can move on to more productive wasted efforts.

Thanks IceMole! :)

That's eight 25k games. Though on Crippling, I might not get 25k per game.

It's actually fewer games than I thought. And that's an average overall increase of 7.7k per game. Quite a big jump.

I better get started soon. :D

This was actually was quite easy with my new score calculation spreadsheet. With most of Ray's scores already there, it probably took less than 2 minutes.

I think the spreadsheet is just about ready for general use though I'd like to see someone test it first to see if it makes sense to anyone other than me. Any victims...er volunteers? :)

Welcome to the Fellowship, Funstr!

Glad you took up my invite. :D

Do come in and say hi to everyone.

Hmm. I forgot to mention that this should require Excel 97 or something compatible. I hope that won't be a problem.
:) I don't have Excel. I am spared. Praise be to Bill Murray.

If you have something already... excuse me. My wantons are sticking to the bottom of my pot. This is teflon! What the heck?!?!

Um... if you have something already set up in Excel, then by all means, IceMole, please take all other score calculation requests. My fingers go numb after punching a few dozen scores into my Power Puff Girls calculator (there's nothing wrong with having this! >:( ).

No prob at all. I've opened it up and I'm reading the instructions.

Thought you would save me the trouble and send one already populated with all my scores. :D
