The Prancing Pony

The welcome sight of a tavern greeted the weary traveler as he moved within distance of the town. Having traveled for many days, he longed for a cool mug of ale to slake his road-thirst.

As he approached the inn, he could see a sign of a fat pony rearing up on its hindlegs. The letters, THE PRANCING PONY, was painted in white.

The common room was large and rowdy. A bald and overweight innkeeper stood bent over the counter, whispering the latest gossip into the ears of a patron. On the benches were various folks, the local drunks for most part, but in corners of the taverns, he noticed there were groups drinking by themselves.

Setting himself down, the traveler handed a couple of coppers over to one of the bar wrenches for ale.

“Welcome to the Pony.” The traveler was mildly surprised to find a sprightly old man next to him, holding his gaze with keen eyes that belittled his obvious antiquity.

“Thank you, and whom do I have the pleasure of addressing?”

“Folks around here call me Ray and I do enjoy meeting up with newcomers to see if there is any assistance I could render.”

“That would be great, Ray. I would love to learn about the people who reside in these parts.”

“Ah, that’s a frequently asked question and one I’m well qualified to answer. There are a couple of factions here in Meta that you will want to watch out for.

The Pirates are currently dominant. Not the most refined of speakers but they are a jovial bunch, with a particular weakness for good drinks.

The Diplomats hold power in the Courts. Their courtiers are many but they don’t really mix with us common folks.

The Farmers are our working class. Hardworking and honest, they are however on occasion given over to overly elaborate festivals and celebrations.

The Galahs are a group of seafarers. They are also good trainers of livestock.

The Warlords are our warrior class. Their love for long campaigns leaves them frequently out of town.

The Spiders monopolise our merchant guilds. They are by far the most invertebrate bunch of traders you will ever see.

Far to the north, the Undead holds a death grip over the wastelands. I would caution you against traveling down that road.

There are many other smaller factions around, but I leave the details of those to Barley our bartender.

One of our tavern regulars, Gerakken the Spymaster, is also in the know with regards to many of the factions. So do buy him a drink if you want to find out more.”

“Thanks for the insights, Ray. But how about yourself, which faction do you belong to?”

Smiling to himself, the old man stood.

“Come round the Fellowship Halls tomorrow morning and I’ll show you around.”

Ray thats disapointing . . . Theoden 500k? Do you think so? . . . Sheez . . . considering the trend of diminishing returns that seems . . . well . . . unreachable?

Oh well congratualations anyway Ray, well played . . . :)

I just reinstalled the bonus pack and I can now build excaliburs. The install of 1.10 had wiped it out somehow. I think I'll do a complete reinstall to be safe.

I don't think I would have controlled myself if I were in your shoes and at the scene, Theoden.

I would most surely be charged with assault at the very least.

Could be 400k if scores are doubled. RA 50k, VA 100k, A 200k - so FA could be 400k.
I was hoping that it would be 100k incremental instead.

I'm looking forward to seeing the jerk in court.

Hell hath no fury like a man whose family has been threatened and messed with. Try not to kill him cause then they'll put YOU in jail. Hopefully they will do there job and get him for attempted manslaughter and gross negligence and then lock the $%$&(&@@# in jail. Sorry but this is too close to home for me.

DarkHobbit
Male Halfling Procurer

DarkHobbit is generally easy going and friendly, quick to laugh and free with gifts. Unfortunately those gifts are sometimes still claimed by others which tends to lead to disagreements. His most vigorous exercise is running away from trouble which he does often enough to remain small enough to hide in his favorite shadows. He does have some strong beliefs which he will fiercly defend but recognizes others have their own opinions and embraces any resulting verbal duelling with pleasure. He joined the Fellowship to help discard the unfortunate label of 'evil' he has received, mostly from misguided acquaintances who just happened to lose a coin purse or such while he was nearby and since he is too passive to be a pirate.

That asshole's behaviour gets my blood boiling just reading about it. >:(

When he ends up in court, and gets all his "character witnesses" to show up and say what a great guy he is, just make sure someone reminds him of his stunts after the accident.

Just be glad everyone's alive, and you got the chance to be there for them when they needed you. There's nothing worse than hearing about something like that over the phone when you're sitting in another state and able to do sweet f***-all about it.

To be honest with you, I was so concerned with my wife and baby I didn't even see the drunk bastard. Luckily the cops hauled him away before I found out about his post-accident behavior.

Let him bring "character witnesses"...he was drunk (twice the legal limit) at 7:30 PM on a Monday night and hit a car with a baby in it. Not to mention my mother-in-law is retired from the police department (she worked in Records...we had cops visiting her in the ER). That pretty much tells about his character. There were a lot of witnesses to the accident and his behavior as well. >:(

DarkHobbit, I posted your backstory on the page (http://www.angelfire.com/rings/fellowshipgalciv/roster.htm) I especially like the Procurer class. Very politically correct! :D

Wow. Drunk drivers are scum. Drunk drivers who slap at babies... that's way beyond scum.

At least your family is all safe. Best of luck to you and to them.

I agree about the reprehensible behaviour of the other party - just glad you and yours are basically OK.

Hey Guys,
Is there a document somewhere that describes how your total metaverse score is calculated? My last 3 submitts have all been around 10k but more total score only goes up by 2or3k each time. Just curious if there is something Im doing wrong here.

thanks

Divide by the square root of the number of games over the past 30 days. You've submitted 7 games so it should be somewhere between 1/2 and 1/3 of the score...

Wiley,

Check out the FAQ section on the Fellowship webpage. It explains the scoring method, plus explains the monthly blocks.

Theoden, glad everyone is OK and hope everyone recovers soon. :)

Congrats to FOTR for 2 million. When GROSS got 1 million before anyone else, I was determined to try to help FOTR read 2 million first so this is very sweet. OK, it's off to 3 million for the FOTR.

Ray congrats on 300k in the pp. Sorry that isn't enough for fleet admiral so guess you will have to keep playing until you get 400k [insert visual image of the FOTR empire dancing happily and cheering, "Go Ray" :D]

Welcome new members. We are happy to provide information and share experience to help you become better players and enjoy the game more. Have fun. :)

Rick

PS How many FOTR members are routinely play maso now?

Rick,

I looked over the empire stats and it looks like:

~Ray the Wanderer
~ricbayer
~vincible
~Lothmorg the Red
~Matthew Downie
~Fatty Bolger (but not currently - looks like he scaled back to Crippling)
~Darkhold (although he's getting anomalous scores like crazy!)

If I've left anyone off, please forgive me. I also noticed that we have a very large number of Painful and above players.

Good job with the Small game, Rick. And congrats on getting yourself back into third place.

Hopefully I can give you some competitition for that bronze medal soon.

Idle, are you going to explain posts 2051 and 2052?Btw I think you have one of the best names on this forum.

Doh!

OK, so I was trying to catch up with the Balrog and I got to the end of the page and it was on post 1999. I thought, "Cool, I can be 2k!" Well, not really, see, after I posted my 'yipee 2k post' I realised there was another page after that. :blushes:

So :hot: :cold: are just edited masks of my embarassment :)

Theoden, thank you for the maso info. I just got done disagreeing with LDiCesare in another thread when he said that maso tiny is easy. IMO, no maso is "easy". For me, every maso at any size is harder than sub-maso at any size. Please, don't anyone go telling Frogboy that maso is "easy". LOL.

But, maso is a blast even though I never dominate. It is a brand new game for me compared to sub-maso and since the scoring is generous, I no longer feel the need to research the entire tech tree (hitting the "enter key" for points gets old). I get a major challenge on maso just playing to win before my opponents win . . . and sometimes it is very close. :)

Good job with the Small game, Rick. And congrats on getting yourself back into third place.Hopefully I can give you some competitition for that bronze medal soon.

Thanks vinicible. On the small game, the Alexians were in the next quadrant and researched diplo translators. Life was good. LOL. It seems, that having a minor get diplo trans is a really big help in maso but having a major get it means you are in for a rough road. Third place is a hot seat with Solitair and others and I would like to see another gold ring near me so good luck knocking out those big maso games.

My brief experience with Maso proved that it's not easy. Hell, it's not even qualified to be called "hard". I would say the word to describe it would be "Masochistic"...oh...wait...

LOL

Mate - take care of that family of yours! I saw your post above about your wife feeling worse - it often happens that soft tissue bruising comes out later; car accident victims walk away from the scene feeling OK and feel worse for 2-3 AFTER the accident so hopefully that's all it is. Forget the bloody game - go cherish the family - best wishes to you and yours.
Agree with Wombie. Involvement in an accident is a traumatic experience. With her mom in hospital as well, your wife would really need you to be around her for support. Do spend more time with her.

We'll take care of things over here. :)

We are really kicking grossling butt now with the biggest-ever lead of 1/4 million pts (it would have been 1/2 million if Cotal and FriendJosh were still with us).

I would still be contributing regularly to our empire score since Fleet Admiral is still not within reach.
