Alliances- Do your Allies Help You?

if you have allies-
1. can they break off the alliance with you?
2. do they come to your aid if YOU initiate a war with someone?
3. do they come to your aid if someone else attacks you?
4. How do you get their help?

I know how they get your help when they need it, but not
vice versa :)

because right now the Torians and Altarians are my allys. They are also allied with each other.
The 3 of us have no other allies.

I need to know, before i restart my game, if i go to war with the Drengins...can i expect help from these guys? I need to know! :D

1. I guess, since you can break alliance with them. I've never seen it happen, though.

2. Yes, sooner or later.

3. See 2. I haven't seen a difference in how fast they come to your aid in these two cases.

4. They decide when. You have to wait it out.

I've been able to depend on their help most of the time. Allies are good in this game.

Torians and Altarians should be quite reliable, I've found it quite easy to work with them as allies.

Allies make a choice based on your alignment and your target's alignment generally about how eager they are to join the fight.

And it's not just with the humans that these things play out. In my current game the only 3 races left are the Altarians, Torians, and me. I'm Chaotic Good and have kept good relations with the Altarians all game. So, even though those two are allied, the Altarians have stayed out of the numerous wars when the Torians attacked me (they hate me for some reason that I haven't been able to figure out).

I had one game where I was evil and the goody-goody crusade was always at war with me. While I had no alliance, I had the Drengin and Yor giving me free ships all the time "to help me out" as they said. Also had minor races give me ships too. Didn't help though as I was defeated big time.

Code Monkey-
maybe you were destabilizing the Torians w/o realizing it? I've had my mouse go berserk in the diplomacy screen a few times. Or else they felt threated by your cultural imperialism?

Windscion: nope, they were just aggressive nutjobs. The game kept going back and forth like that until the Altarians finally became close with me and broke their alliance with the Torians the next time they "ruthlessly" attacked me and immediately counter attacked the Torians on my behalf. The two of us ground their empire into dust quite nicely :)

Just finished an Alliance Victory game with the Yor as my loyal sidekicks. They had very large fleets and kept pounding the Arceans, Torians and Altarians making for an easy victory. In a little twist at the end, the Altarians surrendered to the Yor rather than to me.
