Some info on the pirate faction

i'm wanting to mod the pirates, but it is not clear what ship model they use.so two questions come to mind:
1)does anyone know which ship model they use 6-10 or somthing else
2)can they be modded i.e. are they hard coded

I can only answer number one.
1) They use different ships(corvette, battlecruiser, etc) depending on how advanced you are, so you can't really mod their ships (:( .
