Gal Civ in Computer Gaming World Top 20

I just got my Nov 2003 Computer Gaming World (CGW) magazine this week. Gal Civ, which they gave a 4.5 out of 5 stars and "editor's choice" recommendation in a very brief review some time ago, is now in the Top 20 (number 19). CGW is where I found out about Gal Civ and then I ordered Gal Civ from amazon.com

I went to the website but the September polling is down; hmmm . . . maybe because it is October? :D. But we who like Gal Civ should vote for it when the October polling starts. Having Gal Civ in the top 20 in CGW should be better than a paid ad and help the chances of the next Gal Civ release.

It's good that GC is getting some coverage, but I wish it was in PCG... CGW has really gone to pot in the past couple of years :notsure:

I have subscribed to CGW for many years. Sometimes it is better and sometimes it is too dominated by the ad industry and first-person shooters. I really, really like the hardware section including the ultimate gaming machine and "lean machine" featured each month. It is difficult to keep up with chips, mobos, memory, and video cards that are best for the gamer. If you are looking to build a new gaming maching, CGW is a great place to look for ideas. Now let's remind them we like Gal Civ. :)

What I want to know is where the hell the thousands of people that voted for GalCiv in CGW are! They're certainly not around here. Disappointing. Is there someway we can start a fund to buy a full page ad for GalCiv.com to place in CGW?

Here is my letter to CGW so maybe others can write CGW too. Our goal is to get the attention of CGW so we get more Gal Civ players and all of us benefit. More happy players = more happy developers = Gal Civ 2 = more happy players and happy developers. :D

I am glad your most recent top 20 games includes Galactic Civilizations (Strategy First Publisher and Stardock developer). When you gave it 4.5 stars and an editor's choice, I immediately purchased it. Gal Civ is the best turn-based strategy game available and if a gamer liked Sid Meier's Civilization series, they will probably like Gal Civ. There is also a games submission portion on the www.galciv.com website called the metaverse. Developers can review games to tweak AI strategy and players can make teams/empires and based on game scores can add international competition. This adds a whole new Internet wrinkle to turn-based strategy games. Stardock just released Gal Civ 1.1 (the expansion pack) free to Gal Civ owners so we have an expanded game to play now. In addition the forum at www.galciv.com is the best gaming forum of all time. There are many friendly persons who help gamers plus the developers frequent the forum to communicate with players. Please do a more expansive review to include the updates, forum, and metaverse parts of this great game. Thanks.

I just got December 2003 Computer Gaming World yesterday (in October? LOL).

Galactic Civilizations has moved from 19 up to 17 on the CGW Top 20 (page 69 in the mag or check the link in the first post).

Thanks to all who voted. There should be more game polling soon. Let's keep Gal Civ in the top 20.

Gal Civ must officially be more than 6 months old

Valamir thanks. I couldn't figure out why Gal Civ was no longer listed until you mentioned the 6 months rule. Oh well, it was good while it lasted and folks can still email their favorite gaming mag or site.

I hope Gal Civ gets some votes as strategy game of the year or something. If anyone has any idea how to promote this, let me know where to write. Thanks :)

Got my January (can you believe it? LOL) Computer Gaming World this week. Of the CGW Top 20, Gal Civ has moved up to number 12. :D

It is also mentioned in their rewind 100 (review of recent game reviews) as an editor's choice with the comment "this is the best 4X space game in years".

Not bad . . . not bad at all. :)
