Was wasted production ever fixed?

There is a big thread on here somewhere bemoaning the waste invovlved whenever you tell a planet to produce nothingin one of it's queues -the money is still spent on the productio nbut it goes straight down the drain.

Ver nearly everyone seemed to think it needed changing and assorted solutions were suggested.

Was anything ever done about this? If not, is there any prospect of it happening?

Nope, any unused production capacity still swirls right on down the crapper. The explanation as to why nothing has been done was that the AI would need overhauled to be able to properly account for this and use it to its advantage.

Damn. >:(
Does that mean it's never going to happen or just that it will be a while before it can be done?

..after all there was all that talk about updating the AI based on the metaverse so presumably they are set up to rewrite the AI without too much trouble..?

AI updates based on the metaverse never meant the AI would magically adapt to players' strategies. Just that the devs would use info submitted to the metaverse to reprogram the AI to take the same tech path, basic strategy, etc as top players.

I don't think this is an "official" explanation, just the forum's favorite theory.

I think it probably won't happen. They're going to rewrite the AI to play the current game better, not to play a greatly revised version of the game.

Do we get an official response to things on this board? It would be nice to have one to this.

I agree that it would be a significant change but I can't see that it would be that hard to program the AI to deal with it. Finding the best strategies might be tricky but they can use the Metaverse for that -I'm sure people would put up with a period of adjustment while the AI didn't make quite the best use of the new system.

Sometimes. The devs post here fairly often. They've said that redoing the economic system is not a high priority for them, but I don't think they've given any definitive explanation of why things aren't changed.

Depends on the change, I suppose. I for one would prefer that the devs improve the current AI rather than make changes which would almost certainly make the AI worse compared to a human.

IMHO the biggest exploit is the immoderate use of starbases by humans. This should be the first priority for game balance.

Well, now that starbases have an upkeep expense, it helps to keep construction from getting out of hand.

Not that I've noticed....

6 SB's are pretty cheap if you have a good economy going and 6 fully outfitted culture SB's will flip any planet in any adjacent sector pretty durn quick.

Plus you can make them terror stars and then you don't have to build any more just move them to the appropriate sector, wait a few turns till all the planets flip to you and move em on again.

Economics is really not a problem late game. I think it wouldn't have changed my last game had starbases cost 100 to upkeep each. I would have lowered spendings, or increased military prod vs. research which is a sinkhole, and voila.

I miss the point of fixing the 'wasted money' thing for the same reason. Late game I just don't have anything to build on any planets. Constructors everywhere, social imps are set to 0 because I've got all those I want and it's faster to rush buy the occasional wonder. Research bleeds my treasury for no good reason. The game wouldn't be any better if the money went somewhere else.
