If your're downloading a theme save it to your object desktop\winstyles\themes directory. When you open the theme manager it should show up there. Then all you do is click on it and then click on appy. Should load everything for you.

steesu,

After download, open "Theme Manager" if it does not do so automatically.

You should see the theme in the list. Select the theme, then click "Apply".

You may get an additional dialog offering to download any programs needed to apply the suite. Just make your choice and move on until a dialog asking you if you want to apply the theme shows up, click "yes" and Theme Manager will then load and apply the theme (this is when folders are written (distributed) into the different program directories, which you can then navigate to in "Program Files" after application).

BTW, within the dialog asking if you want to apply the theme, there is a button labeled "Advanced" which if clicked opens a check list of components in the suite that you can use to select individual components to apply.

Hope this helps.

steesu,

Hmm. Have you tried using the search tool to list all suites in your computer (*.suite search should do - using the "searching all hidden files and folders" setting in advanced options)

The automatic download does download files to "C:\Documents and Settings\"user name"\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files", where "C" is the letter drive Object Desktop software is installed on, and "user name" is the user account.

Also, check the "Tools>Settings>General tab" in Theme Manager and make sure that "Automatically run files downloaded from the internet", and "Show preview when loading Suite (if available)" options are selected in the "Suite Files" section.

The only other thing I would suggest is the old Uninstall, Reboot, Reinstall method.

If you do, make sure to delete any Theme Manager folder in "Program Files\Stardock\Object Desktop" folder to clear any remembered settings.

BTW, I assume you are downloading to the user account that "Object Desktop" is installed on, if not; I would suggest downloading to that account.

I am currently running Theme Manager version 2.19.003 on XP Pro (SP2), with no issues.

I hope this is of some assistance to you.

I might have missed something there. What do you mean by object desktop user account? By the way I tried uninstalling and downloading again, it didnt work. Im still learning about this stuff have patience with me if you can. If you dont want to persue it anymore its OK. Thanks for the help you have given me. smitty.

steesu,

No problem, I will help if I can.

It seems that a number of people are having some issues with not being able to load themes with Theme Manager.

First, I mentioned the user account because software must be installed with an administrator level account. If you are the only one using the computer, or you have not set up any other user accounts there is no need to concern yourself with the user account differences.

FYI - If you have a number of different people using a computer, most people tend to set up what is called "user accounts", and these can be set up with different access levels to the operating system (for instance, someone may be allowed to use software, but not allowed to install and uninstall software).

There was a response from "aufisch" indicating that there may be an issue with some of the older themes, though I believe this has been fixed in the 2.19.003 version. You can find it here:Link

A couple questions:

Are you able to apply any suite that was included with Theme Manager when you installed it, and what version of Theme Manager are you running? - (this is found starting Theme Manager and going to "Help>About" and checking the number listed there.

I do know that you can apply any of the themes that give you an "Apply" button after selecting them in the list without being connected to the internet. I did this on Saturday to verify and I would suggest you try this with one of the suites that came with Theme Manager ("Alien Mind" or "Gemini" should do nicely) to narrow down the issue to a local issue, or a network/internet issue. Just disconnect your internet feed, and try to apply one.

Hopefully someone with greater knowledge than I will happen upon this thread and offer you some help that will be of better assistance than I have been.

I will check back later to see how it is going, and don't hesitate to ask for assistance. I will help in any way I can, as will many others at this site.

Good luck

Yes steesu. There was a problem with suites downloads but that has been fixed with the newest version, which just came out today (or late yesterday). I tested this version and suites downloads and application now work a treat.

It is very important that you install the newest build 2.19c(b).002 through Stardock Central.

Question for anyone who cares? What program do people use to capture screenshots of Object Dock? I have Screenshot Utility and it doesnt pick up Object Dock or anything slightly transparent?

I use a program called "Snag-It" (about $40), but I believe there are some free programs out there.

You might try download.com and search for one of them.

SchwagNug: Hoversnap does it as well (very nicely) and is free. Google will get you right there.

Here is a link to a screenshot on this site that has the icons i am talking about!

That screenshot is using Avedesk 1.1 to get the icons with the system information beside them. As far as I know Avedesk doesn't have its own website, so head over to www.aqua-soft.org and in the forums you should be able to find the download link and lots more information. To simplify, here is the link to the topic: Link

Hope that helps.

Ahh, you obviously use the free versions of the program. Just hang in there, I am sure the free version will get updated soon.

Btw: stardock Central is the name of the program through wich all the ObjectDesktop programs are installed and upgraded (https://www.stardock.com/products/sdcentral/).

I don't use any program, just the PrtScn key. then open a graphics program and hit Ctrl+V to capture the whole screen. To capture just the dock, click once on the dock to bring it into focus, then use Alt+PrtScn.

Yep, Im trying the free version first, dont wanna get screwed. I used the free version about a year ago and it worked OK, then it went to shit. Thinking about trying somebody else. Ill keep checking back though. Thanks for your help. (why give out the free version if it doesnt work?)

steesu,

Sorry, I did not understand you were using the free version. I would not have included the instructions for the full suite and given you TMI.

I should know better than to not ask first.

Good luck with your search, though I don't think there is a better suite of programs available anywhere.

Peace.
