Can't Install Gal Civ on windows XP

Hello ,
i just purchased a copy og GAl Civ . everytime i pop the
cd in and try to install , the install menu will just freeze.

i have a dell laptop with 2.6Ghz CPU and
512 mbyte Ram . running Windows Xp home edition.
i downloaded the latest updates for Win Xp.
i have an ATi radeon with 32Mbytes of Ram . i tried to disable the hardware accelaration with no success.
I am installing from a dvd/cd-rw combo drive.
i disabled the Cd-Rw software to no avail.

i have read on this forum that it might some codecs that are buggy . i have RealPlayer , can that be the problem ???has anyone encountered something like this ?
if so , any hints will be appreciated.

I have gal civ on xp pro and have no problems at all

are you downloading it via stardock central or installing it from cd?

do you have direct x 9.0b for xp?

Ahfw802:

Have a very similar Dell laptop, and haven't experienced your problems - so I doubt it's a Dell-specific issue unless yours has older drivers. I DID uninstall RealPlayer, though. I did not have to reconfigure the DVD/RW drive.

Though it sounds like a cheap excuse, is it possible the CD is physically flawed? If you have the serial number from your jewel case, you should be able to just download the entire game using Stardock Central, if you have a decent Internet connection.

I have XP, not a Dell, in any case, RealPlayer didn't cause any problem, but then I didn't install from CD but from download.

Try updating your flash player.  The installer uses a flash menu, so if you're having trouble with it, it's probably because of Flash.

If re-installing flash doesn't work, you can disable autoplay and autorun for your cd player, put the cd in, and then try (a) installing directly from the installer or (b) copying the files to your harddrive and then try installing.

If worst comes to worse, you can download the entire game using the serial number from the jewel case and Stardock central (or the link from the downloads page).

Thank you all,

1-I updated the video card drivers from the manufacturer.
2- I updated the dvd/cd-rw combo drived frivers
from the manufacturer.
3- I installed the newest flash player.

after all that , the installation didn't work from the cd.

so I copied the cd onto the Harddriveand ran the installation from there. (had to Disable the AntiVIRUS and Firewall software )
and the Game now works fine :D ..

thank you all for the hints .. :D
