Help w/ downloading Rainlendar skins

The skins are usually distributed in zip-files that hold the skin's ini-file and graphics files. To install a new skin you need to unzip the file into the Rainlendar's Skins-folder (usually located in C:\Program Files\Rainlendar\Skins). (Okay, got it).

The skin's ini-file must be located in a separate subfolder under the Skins-folder (e.g.C:\Program Files\Rainlendar\Skins\MyTestSkin\Skin.ini). If you put it directly into the Skins folder or if there are more than one subfolder things won't work. What?

Sorry to be so dense but the above instructions are about as clear as mud. Put what ini-file in which subfolder where? I've been able to download two Rainlendar skins: Cabal and Elsdee. They were considerate enough to appear in one nice, neat folder prior to extracting them. When I'm faced with multiple files to extract and unZip, I'm lost.

Windows XP, SP2 here ... so, is it a matter of changing the file extension prior to unZipping?

I don't use Rainy, but I'm pretty sure this will work. Extract all files in the zip, to a folder within the skins directory. This folder should have the same name as the skin.

As Koasati said, unzip the file. Then move this unzipped folder into your c:\Program Files\Rainlendar\skins folder.


The text you put in italic just means that your unzipped folder containing the skin can't be in c:\Program Files\Rainlendar directly, and it can't be in c:\Program Files\Rainlendar\skins\All blue skins......

The second set of instructions does seem a bit confusing.

Here is what I know for Rainlendar:

The skin should be in one folder which bears the name of the skin (i.e., cabal). Inside this folder there should be some images, a file with the .ini extension and perhaps a font file or two depending on what the author has used. Okay, this gives us the skin in folder.

We need to get this folder into the "C:\Program Files\Rainlendar\Skins" folder (where "C" is the letter drive).

I always download to "My Documents" and then see if I have a ".zip" file, or some other file after download. In the ".zip" file case, I extract the contents of the ".zip" file to "My Documents" folder - this is easily done by right-clicking the ".zip" file > select "Extract" > and just keep clicking "Next" until you see a "Finish" button > click the "Finish" button. You will now be looking at the contents of the folder which was inside the ".zip" file. If you see images, a ".ini" file, and perhaps a font file, you are good to go to next step.

Close the window in which you see the above mentioned images, ".ini" file, etc., and you should be looking at the "My Documents" window with the skin folder highlighted.

While the skin folder is still highlighted, select the "copy file" link in the common tasks window on the left (or use "Edit>Copy"), and copy the file to "C:\Program Files\Rainlendar\Skins".

You should be good to go.

Note - if you saw a folder other than one bearing the skin's name after extraction - some authors include the complete compliment of folders in the ".zip" file. You might see something like a series of folders inside one another (i.e., "Program Files" folder with "Rainlendar" folder inside, and then the "Skins" folder inside of that, and then the "Skin" folder you downloaded inside that). If you run into this, just open the folders until you reach the folder which bears the skins name and which contains the images, ".ini" file, etc. - and copy that folder as above.

I think the second set of instructions in your thread may have been intended to keep people from placing the ".ini" file in the "C:\Program Files\Rainlendar\Skins" folder which would overwrite any ".ini" file that is included by Rainlendar developers for the default skin, and would create problems when you try to apply your new skin, because the ".ini" (initialization/configuration) file would no longer be inside the folder which bears the downloaded skin's name. All skins need the ".ini" file inside their individual folder - at least that is my understanding.

I hope this helps and that I have not created more confusion for you.

Thanks for trying to help, Koasati. I was able to extract all the files in the Zip for the Cabal and Elsdee skins, store them in the proper folder, and use them because each downloaded as one file to then be extracted. Other skins I've tried though download as multiple files and I'm unable to extract them and save them in the Rainlendar Skins Folder. If I'm not mistaken, all that I've tried to download had the .zip file extension. Don't know why I was able to get Cabal and Elsdee and not able to get others.
