Espionage - Recovery from Destabilization?

I was playing what I thought was a pretty good game (Class 19 Earth, with a class 26 Saturn!) when I noticed my morale was steadily dropping. Thinking it was merely my repressive policies (thoroughly evil), I lowered tazes and went about my business. But it kept dropping. Then my slow-as-molasses spies report the Altarians are destablizing me. And the Arceans. And the Torians. Soon enough, I have a morale level of 61% with *0* tax rate, and my empire is colapsing from lack of money! (The game ended soon after, at war with all three races, with no money to build a scout, let alone research battleships...) (:(

How do you recover from destabilization? Or is it a permanent effect that shafts you forever? Obviously, it isn't a "Cold War" effect, 'cause it didn't go away when they declared war on me...

Hmmm...i must admit i have never taken much notice of the AI's destabilization. From what i have read hear on the forums they should stopped if you start destabilizing them or if they are busy with wars (get them at war with other AI's)

I personally don't let my taxes go below 30%. If my morale falls to 50% (because of pop growth) the pop growth should stop and so should the fall in morale.
I try to get my hands on morale ressources, social improvements and morale boosting technologies to keep my morale high.

I focus on moral in the early part of game to keep my pop growth high (and thereby increase my economy). Later on i don't focus that much on moral since i have found this to make me feel like a dog chasing its tail (i.e. i get a morale booster - my morale rises and so does my pop growth - then my morale starts falling).

The best way against destabilization is to improve the morale of your planets thru galactic wonders and building improvements in your homeplanet and espionage against the AI.

I already focus on morale. I like to keep it at about 90-92%. I hadn't thought about the fact that population growth itself will harm morale....

And I haven't tried counter-destabilizing. But that seems even more likely to lure me into a war I really (literally!) can't afford...
