too many planets join me

It takes time to make new planets happy after they deflected from another ruler and joined mine? Can I undo a planet that has rebeled (but not left) Too get that awful red flag off the planet?

You can try to look at the details of the planet and then set the Propaganda meter all the way up (left bottom). But that costs money, or you can by some social projects (eg Entertainment network...) but there's a cost too...

You have to wait one turn and many of them change the flag, other thing is to improve the moral in the planets by building different things that raise the planet quality and the morale (social buildings, etc) ;) Come and join the Diplomats, we are the most diplomatic team in the Metaverse. ;)

You can go to the details screen and spend $$ to help make citizens happy. Concentrate on building morale boosting improvements on these planets, and they will be happy shortly.

You can abandon a planet, but if you are getting flips--better to improve it and get the benefits of a free planet.

It will help you to change whatever ship the new planet is producing to a colony ship, then ship half the population away from the planet. The biggest reason a planet gets a red flag is too much population for the current development level.

Build a combat transport and get some people off the planet if you don't want to build the improvement. You can then use them as shock troops :D or to add population to an already happy planet.

Yep. You want all the Pop you can get in this game - that's really where a big portion of your score comes from.
