Cultural victory question

I've just been playing my first game. Large map, all AIs on 'Beginner'. I took over a pretty huge chunk of the galaxy right at the start of the game, and now control most of it.

When I look at the menu, to see how I'm doing with the victory conditions, it tells me a certain percentage for military, research, and so on... But for Cultural Victory it says "12mts".

This _looks_ like I'm 12 turns away from victory, right? But the number never goes down. I've been keeping an eye on it for about 30 turns and it stays on "12mts".

What am I supposed to do with this? Is it a bug it's not counting down, or do I have to click something to start it, or have I got the wrong idea about it completely?

Looks like a bug then.
What version are you using?

You should make a save, exit the game, restart Galciv and reload the save. After 2 or 3 turns should should have the 12 mts left (influence take some time to build up correctly after a load). It the counter don't move after the few turn (and haven't a message telling you that the countdown has started), you should send the savegame to CariElf.

Okay, thanks. It was whatever version that is downloadable from the website. I didn't update using stardock central. I've just tried that and I'm going to give it another go.

Doh. After upgrading, when I loaded the game back my entire research system was screwed. It thought I'd won the game through a research victory, but still thought I hadn't researched "weapons theory" yet too. I clicked on 'end turn' and won the game. Doh.

Guess I'll start over! :(

Culture victory has a couple of catches to it. One, you must not be at war with any major race. Two, you have to be so many years into the game to win this way. I forget the exact minimum year. It has been a little while.

I feel silly :( . Looks like you were playing with version 1.12 or older. And I have forgot to warn you about save game problems when upgrading version of the game.
