Metaverse Reset Anyone?

I'm not sure how anyone might feel about this (Including StarDock) but now that Version 1.2 has been released (and allowing for any final patch that might be needed) what are the thoughts on a general reset of the Metaverse scores? Admittedly I'm nowhere near as active a member as many on here, but considering the amount of cheese that was abusable in previous versions, it occurred to me that it might be fun (and help competition) to start all over

Don't shoot me, I'm only asking for opinions :p

I think if would fun, not as much because of the cheese (because alot of it is still there), but mostly because i would like to start over.

But i must admit that i don't think it's going to happen

I have always been a strong supporter of a standardized score system, but instead we got a continual cycle of score inflation. First, my thinking of several months ago was that maybe the older games could be converted into the newer standards with some kind of script, since the raw data is kept. That is not going to likely happen. My thoughts now are a limited Metaverse reset wiping out all games before whenever the last major score overhaul was (or is if it is still going on). In Ye Olde Days, a few hundred points was a gold standard. Now 60K monsters is the high end. In my own case, 50 point scores are co-existing with 13K giants. The system has changed that radically, and that was only from 1.02 to 1.11. I don't even know what the later versions would yield.

So some sort of standardization, whether it be by recalc or scrubbing older scores, might be wise. But it looks like the route that is going to be taken is to let time solve the problem, as in making a degrade scale that will eventually reduce a score in a block down to zero in a few months. That would retain the old record showing the submissions of then, but the degraded score may make those old historical games worthless.

In other words, keep at it and you'll earn it.

...which is based on two opinions of mine: 1) take away my old scores and I'll kill ya! ;) 2) crankers are beating you now, crankers would beat you after a reset, ain't no difference.

The metaverse scores undergo a re-calc every so often.. to weed out and update older scores for players that havn't submitted games for a while.. I believe thats all thats needed.. (and a seperate scoring board for AP players... as with more main AI players it changes the whole game... this is unless they plan to have take over from GC .. ( why would anyone want to play GC in the metaverse when playing a smaller maps will achieve the same score... it is a totaly different game)

as for reseting the scores.. I say no as well.. unless that is that the individual pleyer concerned wants it... (in which case they mearly need to set up a new player I believe) the players / empires that have these scores have played the game... found chinks in the AI's routines etc... just like in a real war... you find a weakness and exploit it.. and to be fully honest here... if the AI and game didn't have any loopholes / weaknesses then NO one would ever be able to beat it.... any weakness can be taken viewed as being cheese... and its only those that don't know about them and how to use them that are really complaining... To compensate for their didaperance in later versions the staff of GalCiv have made the games score higher than before (sure not at the loss of every little cheese) in general I believe that the scoring system is still working in a good way... ppl have to remember that some players have been playing since the metaverse started... and it would not be fair to them to reset their scores because newer players can't catch them... because all it takes to get up there is dedication... I can name at least 3 players who have showen what can be done... and if they were to want to put the scores well and truely out of reach then they'd do it in a matter of weeks..

i'm for a fixed periodic reset with the archiving of result. would like the meta run like a sporting team league ie fixed period, whoever wins gets the trophy, spill the scores, recruit, make new empires, keep the old ones going, whatever, start again - if you get maudlin about yer old scores look up the archive, or look at yer championship medal from 2003.........just me 2 bobs..

personally, I can't really agree on the "weakness" idea, I mean come on, I've personally used the cheats myself, of course I have, but one gave me pretty much unlimited money, another, attacking colony transports in orbit, allowed for VERY easy assaults on otherwise tough planets

The score reset won't happen, too many want to keep their scores anyhow, it was only a question :) But it is good to see some people who wouldn't mind a score reset

I think the removal or resetting of inactive players and empires would be nice. I was considering the possibility of joining an empire the other day and was rather suprised to find empires with only one overlord in it and the most recent submitted game occurring some 9 months ago. Would it be reasonable to weed out empires that have been inactive for, say, more than 3 months? :notsure: ??

Leave the scores as they are as those players have earnt them.

I think a new batch of medals is called for.

Let everyone keep their scores but have a medal for the highest score gained in a set period. Much like a tourney .

The period could be monthly, which would mean 12 new medals (maybe another 12 for last year champion).

Perhaps the winner for that month could even get a Title or perhaps some bonus points.(plus a write up on the metaverse news).

No one's going to shoot you, Dark! I think we've all thought about this one at some time or another. I reckon the majority of older players would say no, and forcing a reset might lose you more than you'd gain. If you had been around for months and built up a million points, to then be zero'ed - would you start again? Most wouldn't, and would probably leave the game. Yes, it makes it hard on the newbie who sees those scores and can't imagine themselves getting up there, but as J.T. points out some HAVE done it. One of my responses to this was to help organise the alliance tournament - we're taking all scores in the month of March, starting from zero. The MWC Stsatbot will allow us to do that, so it's a kind of temporary reset on an empire basis that doesn't affect the Metaverse. Sorry we cant to it for every player - but I agree with the general observation that we need to get creative to keep people interested!

Sounds fair enough Wild! I can understand where you're coming from. Would be good to hear more comments from folks, either way on this

Not a bad idea from Blueroach either, it can be quite misleading to join an Empire (mine for instance) with quite a few members, but then realise that some have never submitted, or have been inactive for some time. Maybe a "cleanup" every now and again would help? But would need to be long enough so that people (like me for instance) who for whatever reason havn't been able to play much recently don't get deleted by accident

Why would I want a reset a lose a year of work.
Besides the "Cheese Tatics" are still valid.

I don't see any reason to reset the scores. I've given up on trying to get into the high score range. Some of these guys crank out games like they have no lives. Personally, I don't have a life either but I can't crank out games that fast anyway. :D

There is nothing tying you permanently to an Empire. I have toyed with the idea of changing before.

Several of the larger Empires are in a state of decay with some of their members forming new Empires.

Usually the activity on the thread in the Empire forum is a good indicator of activity. Having said that I can't understand half the things said on ours. ;)

After being away from the game for two months,
i'm glad to know i won't be erased from the rolls
of Arnor,or that the scores over the last few months won't be reset :) As Blueroach said above,u can always join a more active empire,or start a new one on ur own
it's kinna enjoyable to look at the way-back empires
and wonder what happened to those players...
