No sound at all

I play GalCiv on my laptop (IBM ThinkPad T40), but the sound doesn't play except maybe twice, out of at least 100 times when I launch the game. I have the latest sound driver.

Unfortunately, there is no forum for tech support so I have to post my question here.

It seems GalCiv cancels out all sounds when it runs. I've tried running MP3s, OGGs, AVIs, and DVDs in the background when I play GalCiv. I have sound before I play, once I launch GalCiv there is no sound at all. I switch back to whatever I am playing in the background, and there is no sound coming from that media file. I switch back to GalCiv and end the game; then a few seconds later there is sound coming from whatever mutli-media file I was playing in the background.

Does anyone have the same problem? Is there a fix? :sniff!:

Umm , dont run all those bits in the bacjground ? :D

I have the same problem , its all to do with those nice peeps at Microflop and thier lovely codecs :)
the win media 9 player hates GalCic, with it in , no sound, by that i mean i never have the sound effects anyway, they very rarely worked before unless i waited five mins or so before loading a game, the they worked fine (you go figure ... ) but i at least could play my MP3's, with the win media dohickey in no MP3's in GalCiv, nothing, zip, zilch no sound. Uninstall media 9 and hey presto Marlyn Manson and Alice Cooper singing away while i stomp all over the AI LOL I have an Audigy 2 and up to date drivers , very strange :) (not me the sound not working)
