Galciv no likey Windows XP?

Here's a stumper. Recently got a new computer, one of those cheapo Dell dealies with Windows XP (hey, I'm a low-maintenance pragmatist at heart). I popped in my Galciv CD to install the puppy on my spankin' new machine and...BZZZZ! The load screen comes up, but when I click "install," it locks up and CD-R player-thing just kinda hums and groans like a cheap sex toy (er, never mind).

Oddly, the other buttons on the Galciv menu (readme and demos, if I remember correctly) work. Then Windows simply tells me that Galciv is not responding, and I hafta force-quit, eject the CD and curl into a fetal position under my desk, weeping hot tears of sadness.

I thought it might be a hardware thing, but I just installed Warcraft III with no problem; also the Galciv CD looks fine. Anyone have any insight or a similar experience? Thanks in advance.

Greetings!

Well, I have Win XP (Just did a fresh install of XP as well) and I have no problems whatsoever.

You might already have tried this but ill say it anyway.. :)
One thing you could try is inserting the cd into the drive, hold down ctrl+shift so the cd wont autorun. Release ctrl+shift after a few seconds (10-15 or so). Enter Explorer and go down to the cd-rom drive icon, on the cd is a file called "setup", double-click it and you will start the installation of GalCiv.

Please respond here if it was to any help. ;)

Thanks for the prompt reply. Tried it a coupla times, to no avail. Strangely, every other CD I've tried in the drive works fine. Hm...maybe it IS the Galciv CD. Well, I'll keep fiddling with it.
