Surrender

What determines if a civilization that is at war is going to completely surrender to someone, also, what determines who they're going to surrender to?

Thanks,
Jeremy

Yeah, the AIs surrendering to someone else sometimes p*sses me off. In the last Gigantic game I played, I attacked the Arceans, who surrendered to the Altarians as soon as I had taken one system from them. Since I was very powerful at that point, I went ahead and attacked the Altarians. As soon as I had take all the old Arcean systems from the Altarians, they surrendered to the Torians. I attacked the Torians, and they eventually surrendered to the Yor (even though the Yor were chaotic evil and the Torians were good). The Yor surrendered to the Drengin ... who thankfully were the last major and couldn't surrender to one of the minors. ;)

And she told two friends...and so on...and so on...and so on....

It can be a little frustrating when this happens. I'm sure there is a formula that determines who surrenders to whom. Does anyone know more specifics on this?

i dont know but it might help.
I do cheat a bit when it comes to surrendering.. when one race surrender i load autosave straight away... attack that race and offer her a "Peace Treaty" demanding few star systems (usually i demand the most populated ones and/or the smaller ones, with bigger ones in same sector). I know that the race soon is going to surrender and obviously it cultural rate is not that high to compit with yours.. so firstly you are going to see little pyrate sign and then hopefuly that planet is going to convert..
Of cource demanding star systems requires a very high diplomacy level that ussuallu comes after i research Majesty III , GOD THAT LITTLE BABY IS GOOD,, it can do magic ;)
P.C. I know that all was a bit of shore but thats what i do when it comes to surrendering :notsure:

I don't know the innards of the system either, but I like the surrendering thing a lot. AI's surrender only when they're in really bad shape in my experience. A human player would probably do exactly the same just to spite you (or surrender to you if they don't feel like pissing you off). Who they surrender to seems a bit weird at times, but the ai always gives an explanation, like 'I surrender to the *** because they look like the most able to beat you'. There are several explanations, so there must be 2 or 3 options among which one is randomly(?) chosen.

The last few times I have seen someone surrender, they have all surrendered to the LEAST powerful race still in the game, regardless of their morality. I don't know if this is all random or not, but it seems strange to me that the Altarians (Pure Good), my Ally at the time, would surrender to the Yor (chaotic evil), which only had one system, instead of me or another "Good" race. Stardock, perhaps something to look into in a future release? Maybe make it so Good races surrender only to other good races, and Evil races surrender only to other evil races. Just my 2 cents...

Strange... sometimes, they don't surrender at all. In my latest game, I had conquered all but the Altarians and they had just three undefended systems left each surrounded by two to three Excaliburs. If that's not a hopeless situation I don't know what is.

But they would not give up. I had to send transports to conquer each of them. Probably did it on purpose the little buggers... At least the Torians had the decency to surrender to me when they had only two planets left.

Beats me... :notsure:

It seems like if your morality is good, they are more likely to surrender to you. whereas if you are evil they will not trust to your mercy ;)

I dislike it when the AI surrenders. I prefer having 5 majors around until one of them is actually defeated. As opposed to just giving up just because they find themselves at war with the most powerful race in the galaxy. I don't like it when people take the ball and go home, why would I enjoy it when the AI does it?

Besides, what if I wasn't planning on conquering them? Maybe I just wanted to weaken them, or take one strategic objective.

I have never seen the final opponent surrender. I think they will only surrender when there are at least 3 majors left. That would be pretty cheesy to win the game due to a surrender, even if it would be less painful.

Like you werent' trying to win the game? If they consider they have lost, they act accordingly. As Damon, I have never seen the last enemy surrender.

No, the last one has never surrendered, but I have seen games where everyone else did.

And as for not trying to win the game.. Sometimes it's not advantageous to stay at war for very long.

I got a surrender from the last Yor planet this weekend. I'd already gotten the 'cultural victory in a year' warning and had my entire fleet heading towards them to beat 'em down before it happened, which may have pushed the surrender button. And they weren't that bright... ;)

I have. In a previous game, the Drengin had one lone world left. They decided to surrender to the inevitable (or something similar in the message).

It happens. It's just rare.

Heh heh... sounds like they did that on purpose LOL

I have recently seen the torians surrender to the drengin - there have been stranger things, but what pi$$ed *me* off in this was that they were at war with the drengin, and that there were four other races they could have surrendered to that they were on friendly terms with :notsure:
