Is it just me, or are the Yor almost constantly destitute?

I've started to associate their pitiful robotic faces with Enron and everything.

They do always seem to be the buttholes of the galaxy. The Arceans always seem to do well, followed by the Drengin, the Torians, and the Altarians. I always try and make friends with the Yor to see if I can get them to flip to me when they inevitably surrender.

The Yor are too easily intimidated by others into paying tribute. In my games, they always tend to get bad starting positions, and maybe are unable to expand as effectively as the others. So I see a race that is slow to expand and seems to be slower in the military build up as well. This leads to them being punching bags a lot of the time in my experience.

I am playing right now a game where the Yor are the strongest of my opponents, what I did from the beginning was to have each one attack the other and they destroyed themselves, right now I only have to deal with Arceans and the Yor, but they are on alliance, a little more time and more cultural influence and I will win.

Yors have the worst AI of the five.

Dregins are strong if they can distort tribute from other civilizations. If the civilizations start resisting and the Dregins get into large wars, they will fall quickly.

Yors are awful at expansion, and can't stay out of wars very easily. You'll likely see them at the top of the population chart early on (meaning no too much population in colony ships - not expanding) and then fading quickly after that

Arceans have strong development and best at tactics/strategy (relative anyways). It's necessary to conduct a coordinated attack against the Arceans to keep the AI off balance.

Altarians are strong militaristic and have the best long term economy management.

Torians are good at diplomacy, but tend to be weak because they try to keep everyone happy. Aims at achieving alliance victory, but often succums to cultural assimilation.

Yor do seem to be hapless. Just finished a game where they were already sucking wind, then lost half their empire to the Fundamentalists, and things went downhill from there. When they surrendered their systems to me (must have made a great impression the one time I talked to them), I got two planets. Whoopee.

I actually believe that the evil robot image of the Yor is just a stage prop, and that they really all look and talk like Twiki from the 1970's Buck Rogers TV series. "Biddi, Biddi. The Drengin just extorted our last roll of toilet paper. This sucks!"

Wonder what happens if you give them an intelligence advantage? I'm about to start a new game...

Well incredible Yors are really hard to beat, then again so are incredible Dregins, Torians, Altarians, and Arceans

In all my experiences with masochistic, I've always managed to take out the Yors before I go down. Managed to take them out in the one time I won too.

Was that a military victory by any chance ;P?

And btw, I notice that with the default morality settings its very hard for me to go evil.

Most games play out as follows on 'intelligent' or higher;

The Yor die a horrible, horrible death.

The Drengin declare war on me, along with at least one other race, with all but maybe the Torians following suit over time.

I give the Drengin ships to buy time for me to get better ship tech.

The Drengin die, then I become the popular one in the galaxy.

I die a horrible, horrible, Yor-like death.

Hehe, it's really odd. I keep hearing about how bad the Torians usually do, but in my games they're usually doing just fine. If I'm a bit slow on the uptake with getting my fleet of star fighters online, they'll be right in line behind the Drengins demanding tribute, and sometimes ahead if I meet them first. I think I have to revise the "keep everyone happy" characterization.

They try and make nice with whoever's strong, and are very hostile to anyone they think is even marginally weaker than them. In my games this usually results in them lasting longer than either of the evil races. I haven't noticed a real trend as far as who survives longest of the other three. It seems to depend heavily on how they end up relating to each other and where they start.

The Arceans usually end up flipping my colonies like cheap fast food hamburgers, whereas the Torians almost inevitably end up driving me insane with their aggression- and maddening theme music... argh... can't... get it... out of my.... head >_<.-

And the Altarians drive me insane with their hypocracy.

The Drengin are predictable to a fault, and the Yor... geez, I feel sorry for them. Seriously, they are the Omega male of this game -as opposed to the Alpha male.-

They are EVERYBODY'S B****.

I usually play with random AI-alignments and so can sometimes become evil without having to fear someting... hmm actually sometimes means in all of the last 3 victorious games...

In only one tiny game the Yor managed to stay alive longer than the others.

i have to agree, the yor usually take the backseat in my games. i never really had a problem with them, usually one of the empires that i ignore in the game until later.

i find the arceans are just anoying, especially if they are right beside you. they tend to build starbases like crazy, and not only that, they dont stick to their own territory, they do it right in the middle of your sectors.

The altarians are the ones that give me the most trouble, especially if i play evil or neutral. however, i do notice that whenever im in a war with the altarians, the other AI's join me in the war against them, even if i have like no relations with them.

I think of the Yor as a Minor with pretensions. ;)

I usually give the Yor an occaisonal free tech, later a few battleships and otherwise just ignore them. About the only times I ever hear from them is when they ask for aid because someone is destroying them, I usually give them some good warships. Relations with the Yor usually finish up as friendly or close (somehow I don't think they were designed to be a friendly race ;) ). Besides I would rather pick on those nasty extorting Drengins and the bullying sanctiminious Altarians. ;)

You can't really down play any race. Just this past game on gigantic, the Yors came out as the best race out of the start, built the gravity accelerators and were demanding tribute from Archeans, Torians and the Dregins.

When I finally took over the Yors, I looked at their star systems and they had multiple colony systems with lots of PQ 22-24 planets.

Some of the AI behavior can be attributed to their aliment. To show their true colors, try playing with everyone on neutral aliment.

Yor are always little weaklings in my games too.
