Alien race equality

I have noticed that in almost all games I have played, that without fail, all alien races but 1 or 2 die out in the beginning to mid stages of the game.

This leaves me with only one or two diplomatic races to play around with. This occurs in every game, with all the races set to the same AI level, usually 'Smart'.

Just in the case of interest, replayability, and general 'fun' level, I would hope to see that most races are able to stay around for a fairly lengthy time in the game, perhaps allow the player to mediate disputes between aliens, or allow the aliens to have short wars, where a system is lost or gained, and then ended.

It is just not fun when it is late game, and you are against one other alien who has assimilated all the other ones :)

The aliens currently are not able to make peace. So when they go to war, it's a fight to the finish. As you can imagine, this is a significant limitation.

There is a game "Starships Unlimited" (www.apezone.com) that someone mentioned in the newsgroup about a year ago. Very similar to GC in concept, probably inspired by GC-OS/2. Anyways, the AI's war, ally and make peace amongst them selves and with you. Mostly based on the proximity of systems you have claimed to ones that they had, i.e. within their territorial borders. Done well enough to justify the $30. Brad I recommend Stardock at least download the demo so the programmer can see if there is any of their feel you might want to incorporate The AI's MUST have the ability to make peace and even not declare war over minor incidents. I accidently destroyed a freighter (right-clicked thinking it was a piece of debris for a surveyor ship) and got wrapped up in a war I did not intend with a race that had 3X my population. I still beat them, but it was not the way I wanted to play the game.

I hope that races can make peace with one another...Diplomacy is one of my fav aspects in that kind of game...especially the kind of: "make peace with one another so we can build a better future" :)

Notice that he said currently they cannot make peace that implies that seeing as we are still in beta that this is just something they haven't given to the AI at this point in time. You got to make sure your AI in a game like this can wage wars effectively or it would be very boring for a large number of people after you prove your AI can crank up its war machine when needed then you can look at the having the come to the peace table and sort out their differences which is essentially an easier task then making sure they can manage war.
