A silly question probably but...

Can you change the format of a picture from bmp to jpg ?

Just wondering...

Many graphic editing progams allow this usually via a 'Save As' or 'Export' menu option. Eg the paint applet that comes with windows (it's options are limited however).

My preference is iView32 http://www.irfanview.com/. It's just a viewing tool but lets you save in many formats.

On XP SP2, right click on the image and 'save as' bmp to jpg or jpg to bmp or gif.

I can do it and if I can anyone can. I usually change .jpg files to .bmp files when I want to be able to zoom in more easily.

XP SP2

Windows XP [home or profession] S....Pack 2 (can't remember if it's support or security).

You can always right click an image then choose edit - usually it will open in paint unless you have something else set as default. then= file, save as. pull down the arrow to the right of save as type and choose jpeg.

If you want other format options The link above provided by Chris TH is for Irfanview. A most excellent free viewer. Download the viewer and plugins. Install the viewer & plugins. So you don't confuse things, don't check mark anything for it to be the default viewer = you can always right click an image and open with irfanview. you can view a wide variety of image formats and then save as something else.

Right, i'm gonna try this first since it sounds easier, and if it doesnt work i'll try your other recommendation. I dont want any other format, just jpg, and i hope it works... Thanks for the tips Bichur

how do i know which one i want?

on the right under download there's Irfanview & Plugins/addons = download both
when you click irfanview under downloads, on the page that comes up , on the right , download now, choose your operating system - when you click your system, on the next page is the different servers that will send it to you. put your mouse over one and look down at your status bar - it will show something ending in /irfanview397.exe - click it and it will download

then go back and get the plugins

SERVICE the S is for service = service pack 2

Miss island_gurl12...it's really easy to change your .bmp images to a .jpg. Just go to the folder where your images are stored...right click on the image...scroll down to "open with" and choose "paint" (it should already be on your pc). when it opens click on "file"...then "save as" then from the dropdown menu at the bottom right choose .jpg or whatever file type you want...choose a folder to save it to then click save. Thats all there is to it. I use paint all the time to change my .bmp's to .jpg's.
