b3: crash to desktop after starting a new game.

I had a new game running, not even one turn old.
Went to main-menu and started a new one.

When pressign done on the race-selection screen it crashed to desktop. Smartexception doesnt seem to work on my PC, sadly. It's running - but doesnt catch any crashes.

The last lines in my debug.err is:
Debug Message: Creating Galaxy
Debug Message: Set galaxy size.
Debug Message: Reading Star Names

Hmm now I get it all the time. Gonna reboot and try again. Im trying the tiny galaxy. THe progress meter get's to 95% where the music stops and starts playing from beginning (or new tune - dont know). After that it crashes.

Without smart exception data there's not much we cna do. It sounds like something is either missing or some other issue.

I'm getting a crash to desktop in 8 out of 10 games I've begun. Crash occurs on different turns, sometimes early, sometimes late in the game. Beta 3 and multimedia files installed. Debug from the latest game as follows:

Server: http://scripts.stardock.com/
Debug Message: SetGameData
Debug Message: SetModuleInfo
SetGameButtons: 1
Debug Message: SetInfoBox
Debug Message: QueryUnload
Debug Message: Unload

Fredrik, this isn't on the windows NT machine is it?

Generally when people get a crash at that point, there is some kind of conflict with DirectSound.

Dunwich: that looks like it's the debug.err file from the drengin folder as opposed to the Galciv folder, which is what we're looking for.

I tried to recreate this one since my SE is working, but instead of a crash I got a hang.

1) Started a new game from scratch.
2). Went through the startup screens and got my galaxy - a tiny one.
3). Clicked "menu" at the top of the screen.
4). Cliciked "main menu".
5). Went to the second setup screen.
6). Pressed "done".
6a). Game did NOT show the progress bar for game setup this time (it did on step 2 above).
6b). After what should be more than enough time I pressed Alt-TAB. It switched to the desktop, but left it in a frozen condition that I had to power off to elminate.

I have my display set at 1280*1024*32 bit, so when it went to the desktop it left a black portion in the upper left portion of the screen that I am guessing was about 1024*768 in size. This is a condition that I have become used to, and have attributed to the game changing the display resolution for the game and restoring my settings whenever returning to the desktop. However, it has never frozen in this condition before. I checked for any change to my Galciv.exe.cra file and found the crash from a previous problem earlier today.
