GalCiv 3A available

+ Lots of new graphics added (so it'll be a kind of big download again).

+ All known crash bugs fixed. I.e. it should NOT crash at all when starting a new game.

+ A number of gameplay tweaks (AI starts with identical population to you).

+ New technology categories

+ Several new techs at the beginning along with the tech tree being cleaned up a bit more.

+ Some new planetary improvements.

+ Music handling much improved

+ Some of the missing text fixed.

And more.

Let us know wha tyou think.

Just bought the beta 3 today! Is this an upgrade. If so how do I 're'install it (with the game manager again?). Do I need to uninstall the B3 version first?

Thanks!!!

Installing beta3a gives an Invalid Data 13 on decompression of Space01.ptb. Have done this a dozen times- deleted the file, re-d/l, with still the same result. The compressed file comes down at 1kb.

Do not uninstall! If you do you'll have to download the whole 180+ MB all over again.

Simply follow the prompts given in the game manager.
If it says there's an update for a component select either install or upgrade for each piece. Right now there are only two pieces, the core GalCiv game and the multimedia components.

Jean-Claude look for a temp file called Space01.pt_ and delete that file.

I have the same problem with error 13 on uncompressing. But deleting coreships.mdl(which is where I get the error) doesn't help at all...

Javascout:

Yes, I did delete the compressed file in the Temp folders, many times and it's still erroring out.

I'll try again.

I am having the same error 13 problem after trying all recommended fixes. Anybody have any new ideas?

I played all night crashed 3 times but after downloading 3A I have not had another crash.

That's good to know. A number of us are still trying to complete the download so we can enjoy the lack of sleep that comes with a great game like GalCiv.

Anybody else have any suggestions?

Do Beta 3 saved games work with 3A? What is the relative level of the windowed version?

Thanks,

Still getting the Invalid 13 on the Space01.ptb file. DGM seems to be going bonkers as well: if I click on the Multimedia files, it d/l's the GC files instead, and steps out on the Space01.ptb file at the same point. Multimedia files are now showing at 146meg, when 3a was announced it was only 22meg. Apparently, DGM is not reading my files properly at some point. Did the same the other day, when the MM Update was 55meg, then ballooned to 136meg, and it added a bunch of files, but most of that was re-downloading existing .bik and other files. There's a loose flag in the routine somewhere; or triggered after a certain number of d/l errors.

I still have the same problem with error 13 at coreships.mdl. Anyone have any advice on how to SUCCESSFULLY get the updated game?

I am also getting the Error 13 on Space01.pt_.
I noticed that the date/time of the Space01.pt_ file in my %temp% directory is 4/9/02 8:08 AM while the file it is trying to replace Space01.ptb is 11/9/02 1:32 AM.
Are you trying to update with an older file???? :notsure:

I can't dl it either. The DGM tells the error is on
the Planet.ptb file, but in the debug log I have :

-------------------------
GetFile: galciv.ex_ 714279 bytes 11/11/02 17:38:18
-------
Error: 13 Invalid data. 0
Debug Message: SetCancelButton0
Debug Message: SetGameData
Server: http://scripts.stardock.com/

Hope this helps...

I too am getting the Error 13 on Space01.pt_. It is also dated earilier than the Space01.ptb in the program directory.

Strange had no problem with the update myself. I was playing Beta 3 which I downloaded Saturday afternoon.

Had lots of fun trying to get Beta 3 on Saturday,
I guess "Frogboy" was hiding under his desk.
Just kidding great job you guys at Stardock show great commitment to Galatic Civilization, Long hours, working on the weekend.

Upgraded to version 3A last night. I wonder if the problem is uograding from version 2 to version 3A.

Hopefully the Stardock developers can resolve your issues soon.

Given their usual level of commitment, I'm sure it will be resolved soon. Mmmmm, what time is it in their timezone ? :))

Also unable to complete the 3A update. Download consistently errors out with the space01.pt_ file.

I had no problem updating to Beta 3A last night. I happened to check for an update about 5 minutes after Brad posted about it's availability so call it 1945 EDT.

I played for about 3 hours last night and didn't have any crashes or strange things in game (which usually, but not always, preceeded a crash).

I like the changes that have been made to the tech tree, although work still has to be done on that front.

I also like the additional graphics that are slowly being incorporated.

I didn't try to load a Beta 3 saved game in Beta 3A. I have had too many problems in earlier Beta releases when doing that to even make me curious.

Same problem here with the space01.pt_ file - I've tried deleting it in my temp folder, but no dice!

Help!

space01.ptb file...Apparently this file is supposed to be generated by the game itself and apparently found its way into the install. I have removed it from the installed files so if you restart DGM it should be able to get past that file now.
