HELP-NEWBIE TO ICON CREATION

I am very new to icon creation and I need help with one issue. I can make most all the other icons-folders,drives,etc. The one icon I can not make is a round or oval recycle bin. I can make a square one-I want to make round ones. I use Photoshop 7.01. Can anyone help me?Email

Thanks in advance

Not sure if this will help but if I understand what your asking the "simple" geometry would be an ellipse for the top, a smaller "duplicate" ellipse for the bottom in the same angle, width etc. with a line from each side of one to the same side of the other. Fill in the area between with a gradient (black/white works best) and allow transparency for the full vs. empty states.

If that's overly simplified there are a lot of Photoshop tutorials here on WC and available on the web.

Thanks I appreciate it. Ok now I can make an empty round recycle bin but when I try to make the full one, the "trash" ends up in front of the icon or behind it. And I will look through the tuts

That's a matter or layering. I don't use Photoshop, I use PSP. In PSP you can drag one layer up or down in the stack to change how it is viewed. Put your "contents" in the layer below the gradient and adjust the transparency of the gradient layer to your liking.

I don't know what I'm doing wrong but that did not work for me. The trash is still on top

Here's how I would have the "very basic" setup;
Layer One (top) would be the geometry of the can/cans with opacity set to 100%

Layer two would be the gradient or fill for the body of the can with a opacity of something like 30 to 50%

Layer three (bottom) would be the trash with opacity of 100%

this should put the trash behind the can

Thanks Sir Lantec for your help. Finally made a round bin with trash in the middle. Now I can complete the icon set I am working on

Glad I could help. I'm looking forward to seeing what you've done.
