Title says it all really, I preferred the old flavour text, when it was just one paragraph. The new stuff has too many cheesy names in it, and seems paced wrong somehow.

Have this also. When I try to add the AI, the 0ms ping to myself disappears as well, unsure if that is related.

That's a good question, and I hope it will be addressed. I think it will vary depending on the router. I expect that the most widespread form of QOS will be that from the Linux based DDWRT/HyperWRT 3rd part router firmwares, which run on a variety of cheap consumer routers. That can prioritise traffic using ports and with deep packet inspection, so it's already quite complicated.

I kind of like it using gold, because then you have to choose whether to upgrade your citadel or your items. So I think the problem is that you can get gold just by sitting back - maybe you're just starting players off with too much gold income, and need to drop it down compared to contested points and enemies killed?
They can claim until the cows come home that they are "not making this like DotA", but it plays just like DotA/AotS and it always will. I'm guessing that close to 40% of the playerbase for Demigod is coming from DotA or similar games.
I was sort of with you up until that point. I'm fairly confident that Demigod will be huge, and that the DoTA player base (even if they all moved over) will not be anywhere near big en

Well if that were to happen I would suggest the following: vampires have a small negative health regeneration, but a good life steal. So they have to keep hitting stuff (drinking blood) every now or then or die slowly. But I suspect it won't be an issue, because there are so many area of effect attacks in the game.

During the first beta a lot of people argued that you should be able to upgrade skills while your Demigod is dead. I still think it's a good idea, as it would give you something to do. However, if that's not going to happen, then could we at least have the text descriptions of the skills available while we're dead? On a similar vein, I'd quite like shopping to be a death experience, but would happily settle for merely being able to look through the descriptions of the available i

I think it would be nice to see skill trees go a little bigger without changing the 25 level cap. Having to pick 25 out of 40, say, instead of 25 out of about 30, would be just the right amount of choice for my money, forcing you to think a little harder about what you're sacrificing with each choice. If they could think of worthwhile skills/upgrades to fill that space that is.

I think I shall have a go with The Count. "One smite AH AH AH AH AH! Two smite AH AH AH AH AH!"

I don't like last-hitting either. It adds in a weird meta-game where rather than trying to kill your enemy, you're trying to kill them at the right time so you get experience. This seems very arbitrary to me, I mean it's basically an exploit. I think continuity comes from a few things. Maintaining player base size feeds into itself for a start: if you can't find anyone to play with, you'll leave, so someone else won't be able to find anyone to play with. So, there needs to be strong i

I have to say, in my experience gamers are more often very slim rather than obese. Also, most adults in developed countries don't play sports regularly or do very much exercise. I think blaming games is missing the point a bit (unless it's World of Warcraft, which I have seen destroy lives). You can have more than one hobby.

Try Blood Omen. 3rd person action, although more hack and slash than platformer. Both the Vampire - Blah Blah: Blah games are worth playing by the way, despite their gratuitously nerdy titles. Redemption came out around the same time as Diablo 2, and wiped the floor with it in my opinion (popular opinion obviously differs, given the sales), having a good story and a sympathetic main character. It also had a storyteller feature which anticipated Neverwinter's Dungeon Master, and did it

Regarding quality versus quantity, I should point out that it isn't just a matter of game mechanics. Demigod oozes style, and Demigods have character. They are interesting, beautifully modelled and animated, even the paragraph each of backstory we've had so far is good. I think Dota is based around an excellent concept, and I'm pleased to see it realised as a retail game. I don't think that all DoTA's little quirks and minutae (some merely holdovers from WC3) are necessary to make the

If people complain when they give us unofficial probably this but don't want to say for certain dates, then in future we just won't get any dates at all until they're absolutely certain. The beta is for their testing purposes, any entertainment we may derive is purely a freebie thrown in to sweeten the pre-order.

Well I don't know about that. I was going to say it fits with existing myth better, but then I remembered Tiamat giving birth to all the monsters. I assume this and Lillith are the same story adapted to different cultures, although I've only heard of Lillith from the first Vampire game, where she's spun in a more positive light.

Maybe upgrading the strength of your troops will increase the bounty on them? Remember, these upgrades cost gold, so you're trading off the opportunity to buy your +80 hit points regen item and have the beast's ooze turned on permanently, which I will bet you is easily worth 9000gp worth of creep upgrades.

Regarding MOO3, I recall that most of its graphics were quite servicable. The alien diplomats, in particular, were gorgeous. If it had graphical trouble, it was the space battles, which were sort of messy, with everything being too small, including the view area. There were plenty of other more pressing problems than the graphics though. I think Baldur's Gate still looks decent enough to be playable today actually, because of the painted backgrounds. It's just a shame that the resolut

It's kind of getting off topic, but I have to say I don't feel the whole 'attention is a resource' thing is a necessary element of all RTS games, it's just the preferred marketting tag-line for multiplayer Starcraft. Now I don't deny that it can work and probably adds a lot of excitement, but it's not the only way, and I know it does put off a lot of people, particularly older players. I should note that the 'pause and play' style of games is very popular. Some games mix things up ver

"Are you at all concerned that by moving around these elements that the individual parts may feel neutered? Or does it feel like it fits?" No, Demigod does not feel like an inadequate RPG hooked up to a second rate RTS. Rather, it is its own game. Demigod is relatively simple, but the mechanics so far revealed work and are addictive. I think I'd actually just class it as an RTS/3rd Person Action game with levelling.

It's not a proper RPG by any means (no more than Warcraft 3 was), it just has levelling up with a skill tree and inventory. I don't think it will be a fully fledged RTS either, although you're going to be able to upgrade stuff and order units around. It is a clever little 3rd person action game with emphasis on team tactics. The game is a lot of fun, and very beautiful. It lacks replay value at the moment, because it is beta 1c and not much content has been released.
