I agree. With limited duration, pull of the tower is essentially just another damage over time power. With unlimited, it's a strategic option for map control, and much more interesting for it.

What about an item that gave nearby creeps a bonus against a particular Demigod? When you talk about what is reasonable to program, it's difficult to make suggestions because we don't know what categories are available to target or modify.

I still think the whole Demigods going shopping thing breaks the game's flavour, and needs a bit of a rethink. But on the specific matter, personally I think I would rather see items targetted against general abilities than particular Demigods (so a weak stun resist rather than a strong Rook boulder resist). Bonuses against a particular enemy seem like they would make battles a bit...arbitrary. Perhaps some way to increase a particular ability's cool down period if you think you're be

I'd second Earthsea and Discworld. Wheel of Time I'm not so keen on: it has some interesting ideas, but repeated and padded out too much. Make too many characters, give each of them one personality trait, one annoying quirk or habit, and one special power. Run through all possible combination in which they might interact to fill 13 books of sodding Naieve tugging her stupid braid. Not epic, relentlessly mundane.

Rather than adding new factions, I'd prefer them to do more work on diversifiying the existing factions, and making all their units interesting and useful. There is too much stuff in the game that never gets used. Other than that, it's a good formula and shouldn't be changed too much. With Forged Alliance especially, I've had some absolutely fantastic lan games which swung one way then the other as we built up, blew each other to the stone age, and then threw our remaining stuff at ea

I suspect that Dominions will have a strong influence on this game. I expect lots of emphasis on variety, customisation, and scale. Probably not the finely-honed balance of Civ 4, but rather loads and loads of cool content. Although they should probably try to get Leonard Nimoy to do some voice work. "Beep, beep, beep, beep".

It's interesting that Conservatives in the UK are now portraying themselves as the party of freedom. I consider myself lefty-liberal-scum essentially because I'm against the 'ban this sick filth' brigade. Wheras I'm fairly ambivalent about free-market versus socialized economics: I don't know enough to make a call. I would certainly consider this portrayal historically inaccurate: every extension of the franchise to some new group has been fought against by the Conservative Party. I t

The slowdown/pathing issue is annoying, and has made me less interested in playing this version. If other people are the same, that means fewer bug reports for you guys. Is there any possibility of a quick temporary fix?

For all their evil empire antics, EA has supported some pretty good and innovative games in amongst all the > > crud. Not that I will ever forgive them for crushing Bullfrog under their corporate flab, but they do appear to have some executives with a genuine interest in games.

I still think that equipping a breastplate at all is retarded for most of the Demigods. Something else or it breaks the flavour. Also, again, too many stat boosts on an item is confusing. Give each item one power at the start, add to that as they are combined/upgraded. 5 item slots might be too many as well, not sure about that.

Well, in line with my original post, I would be very disappointed if it were possible to fill all your slots with +speed items. How would you choose between them?

I think that the items system in Demigod at the moment is a bit of a mess. There are lots of them spread around different shops and they each do too many different things. Figuring out which ones would be useful at what point is tricky and time consuming and out of whack with the game's pace. On top of all this, they have serious flavour issues: the Rook already has a hat, and it throws rocks, what use would he have for a helmet? So, idea number one, no more going do

Call of Duty 4 is every bit as difficult and unfriendly to new players as Counterstrike. Probably even more so, since everything is brownish-grey and you can't actually see your enemies. Over-complexity != depth; struggling with the interface != challenge. Often the old games that people nostalgicly refer to as 'deep' actually just had loads of stuff thrown together without any thought to game balance.

Lots of games have elements of chance to them, I don't see why that would imply less skill. It just means obsessive people can't figure out a precise optimal sequence that works every time. I suppose one thing to do might be to assign each creep a points value and have both portals spawn random creeps adding up to a similar value each wave, but honestly individual creeps are fairly insignificant so it's just fiddling around the edges. In Counterstrike, sometimes you flic

I think there is a fundamental flaw with the argument that people would find other ways to kill each other. It assumes that the killing is premeditated, with the killer having acquired a firearm with the intent to murder. This completely ignores crimes of passion. The thing is, guns are very effective at what they do and make it very easy for anyone to kill anyone else without trying particularly hard. It takes a much stronger intent to go up to someone and stick a kni

I'm having similar problems with the new beta: Q6600 (quad-core 2.4ghz) Radeon x1800XT 256MB 4GB Ram Vista 64. Playing around with changing the settings, the graphics engine itself seems smooth. Scrolling and zooming around is fine at almost every setting (textures high makes it a little jerky). However, all the animations seem to stop every few frames, and the unit AI gets unresponsive. Guessing this is CPU-related, since I had the

I remember reading that Demigods would be balanced by making them all overpowered. That +1000 is still melee only, after all.

I like the creep redirection idea. Think the neutral beasties could work well in the single player campaign perhaps, depending on how it's set up.

Well I always turn integrated VOIP off, but I doesn't see how that negates the people who like it? Although I think a better idea would be to cut a deal to integrate one of the free VOIP packages into Impulse, assuming you're having something akin to a friends list.
