Well, actually, you take over a planet by destroying it's infrastructure, not killing the people, you can take over planets while they still have population depending on how you bombard it. I remember in Hegemonia, some planet that I had to kill 7 billion people before it finally surrendered, That seems far more harsh than '290 population units'.

Your construction frigate cap in a system is determined by your level of tactical and logistical infrastructure on the planet. If dead, one will be replaced in 30 seconds (I'm not quite sure why it doesn't come from the planet, it just appears randomly in the gravity well). If you're in combat (I don't know what defines this, probably bombardment) then it takes 300 seconds to replace.

Light frigates principal advantage seems to comes in that they are available very early, and they are very inexpensive.

I won a game against two allied hard computers, both with random personalities, by building only capital ships and defenses, so I would imagine someone from the beta, who has lots of experience, can absolutely trash the ai.

Well, here's why shield pen in general isn't helpful. Here's what 30% shield pen looks like (100 hp, 100 shield, 50 damage per shot) Shields - Hull 100 - 100 65 - 85 30 - 70 0 - 50 0 - 0 It would die in exactly 4 shots, which is the same as if it had 0% shield pen 100 - 100 50 - 100 0 - 100 0 - 50 0 - 0 Shield pen only helps if you have a ton of it, or if the enemy has very little hull and tons of shields Now - if it

I usually always target frigates first, at least early on, because if you fire at a cap ship it will just flee at 2/3 life and you can't destroy it before it leaves the system. Frigates you can mow down really fast and there's no danger of them escaping, plus you are continously lowering their firepower.

I'm not sure what effect armor would play in fighter battles, so I disregarded that, but the vasari and tec would have about the same power with Advent being more powerful (assuming they're being shot at) (15 : 15 : 22). However, the Advent would be extremely vulnerable to the TEC Capital Flak ability that does 60 damage in a huge aoe, it would just about kill every advent bomber in the area. if you had two of those capital ships at level 3, which is easy, they could both do a 45 at

I think (I hope) it is dps, but I am not entirely sure. I don't have time right now but an easy test is that the planet bombardment ships have a planet attack of around 20, and I think they do 20, but maybe they also fire once a second? Or if you research 15% faster gauss guns and the number changes at all, that would be the real clue, but I've got food on, so I can't check now.

Try playing bigger maps, the AI tends to not do very well in small maps, I think. Also, a thing you can do to voluntarily make the game harder is to not use capital ships, or at least less of them. You can defeat 2 Hard AIs allied together in a 19 planet game by building only capital ships and nothing else (except scouts)

1) Yes, shield mitigation affects damage done to the hull (or at least, that's what it says in the manual and the game's only 7 days old) 2) No idea, never bothered with that advent tech for shield negation, it seemed worthless to me. if 20% of your damage ignores the shield, they're still going to die at the exact same moment.

Advent is heavily focused on fighters? Correct me if I'm wrong, but the only difference I can find between advent and everybody else fighter wise is that they have a single tech, and it raises the amount of fighters stored in a defensive building.

For the most part, fighters kill fighters and bombers, and bombers kill ships. Fighters have a limited anti frigate attack, and armor (the numerical amount) greatly reduces damage against anything other than the most weakly defended ships.

When I started, I played against an easy ai set on defense on the smallest map, it takes awhile, but the size of forces stays small. Build a capital ship as fast as you can, because it is free and vastly more powerful than the early game ships. Gun turrets are also effective, but make sure you put them around your planet and surrounding your economic structures.

(disclaimer : this is what I have found to be true, it could just be buggy or something) Basically, It finds the shortest distance between the two of your planets that are farthest away from each other. So in a 1-2-3 |Z|Z| 4-5-6 |Z|Z| 7-8-9 The Zs are empty space, but the spaces didn't save when I posted the post. formation, if all 9 had trade routes, the route would probably be 1 to 2 to 3 to 6 to 9. I've found that it ignores planets wi

[quote]If you want to test this, just get online, jump into a game with an unsuspecting victim, go straight to the siege frigate tech (ignoring pretty much anything else), pump out as many as you can in a reasonable amount of time, and head straight for his homeworld. If his fleet sees you on the way, don't stop to fight it, just keep going - his fleet won't be able to catch you. Once you get to his homeworld, just ignore all his defenses and bomb the crap out of his planet. You may lose a few s
