@Sole Soul, Mumblefratz, and Mistralok I stand corrected and apologize. Twas the end of my workday and I was in a rush to send out my praise before heading home.

Good. Bad. Makes no difference. They are MEGA. They shake things up and keep a player on their toes. If the player is good he or she can always turn them into his or her favor. A bad player on the other hand...
Don't sweat it, Sethpenguin. Aside from the fact that you are at the age when you feel like you don't fit in anyway (I have a 14-year old daughter who is going through that phase), you've got nothing to worry about regarding your tastes in gaming. To each their own, you know? My kids rock at Guitar Hero and I completely suck at it. But I pony up and play it with them, even if they make fun of my style and suck-ass ability. Besides, sometimes I feel like I don't fit in with o
Besides throwing money at Stardock for no good reason (which, for some, may be enough reason in itself), I will be happy to not have to go through Stardock Central anymore than I have to. I registered DL at one email address and then DA at another. I've since moved jobs so TA will be under yet another email address. I'll just get my bundle, and any manuals that (hopefully) come with it, and be happy knowing that I'm helping stuff the stockings of all the Brads, Frogboys, Kyros, and Elfs over
Heh. Between Annatar and myself you'll be up and running in no time! :CONGRAT:
Use the pirates to your advantage. Be the highest bidder when their timer reaches zero. But babysit it for a minute or two after that. They don't immediately set out until a short time after that and the bidding can go up (and onto you) in the meantime. And don't go after them (until you are really, really ready). Expand as fast as you can for the first few worlds. Clear out each system with your free capital ship and colonize as you go. Remember to build up your infrastructure so
Bravo Mumblefratz! Well done indeed, sir.
I tend to get more Mega Events on larger maps too. And yes, turtling almost always seems to bring on the Jagged Knife. I've actually never had the Peacekeepers show up but they sound horrible.
I'm not made of money, but I'll probably pay $60 for the ultimate bundle and I already own DL and DA. Take my money, Stardock. Just keep making/publishing the games that you do and I'll keep throwing you everything I can scrap together.
I've DM'ed countless people through countless campaigns for many years. And although my playing stopped, my love for the game that Gary made never has. I have all of my original books, many of the modules, and picked up the 2nd edition just to check it out many years ago. I have my dice stowed away - along with plenty of memories. I don't know how many hours I spent in middle school, high school, college, and after college playing Dungeons & Dragons. The adventures and places in m
Ah, Ascendancy... that brings me back to the college days. This game does remind me of Ascendancy with its use of phase lanes :) Start slow, just like Annatar suggests. I started on small with one easy AI. Then I moved to medium with 3 easy AIs (and lost). Tried again and won. Then I moved on to a medium sized map and normal AI. So on and so forth... Enjoy!
"BSG mode"... Hahahahahahahaha!!! Nice one, Advalary :CONGRAT:
Can't wait. You guys rock! Guess I'll go crank up the AI to Hard now so I can have my butt handed to me this week, get better, and then get it handed to me all over again after the patch.
Mopping up does get a bit tedious. And it becomes even more of a headache in multiple star systems. In my current game I am playing a 5-star galaxy and completely control the central star system. I am creeping into the other systems and taking over planets without much resistance. I get so bored that I fall asleep (granted, I don't get to play until the wife and kids are in bed). I'm looking forward to the new patch and to see the computer surrender.
I can win most of the time playing like this on Painful (DA). The only difference is that I have to declare war from time to time. You know, in the name of galactic peace  Make sure your diplomacy is top notch. The defensive bonuses your ships receive can really counter the evil toys you'll be missing out on.
Although I haven't played in absolute ages I was very saddened to hear this. I am working on some pieces (I paint and shoot photos) for the upcoming Conglomeration, a pretty popular convention held here in Louisville, KY. I certainly feel compelled to add an additional piece devoted to the legend himself.
Heck, I did my best to go easy on him. But I was thinking pretty much what all of you are saying
The game, like many others, uses stock sound effects. You'll hear some of these effects not only in games but in movies too. Check out this thread... [link="https://forums.sinsofasolarempire.com/?forumid=402&aid=301785"]WWW Link[/link]
I'm really astounded by the problems you are experiencing. In my experience the camera will focus where your mouse pointer is pointed, whether it be a planet or asteroid or empty space. I zoom in and out with the mouse wheel. When I right-click and hold the button I can rotate and angle the galaxy as I see fit. Although, to be honest, I usually play from a top-down perspective. To focus the camera on an event you simply have to hit the space bar. Try it agai
Cool. I've wanted to check out the other maps but haven't played anything besides random (still having too much fun with that although Gateway sounds intriguing). Thanks for the post!
Haha! That's awesome. Suckers.
I don't fleet up my ships. For my "big" fleet, I'll assign it to 1 (using the CTRL key and the 1 key). Then I will divide my fleet up further. I will assign the cap ships and the Kodiaks (I play TEC obviously) to 2. I will assign Cobalts, LRMs, carriers, and support craft to 3. And then I will assign my siege frigates to 4. When I need to move though friendly space I hit "1" and right click. When I'm attacking a planet I hit "2" and right click. Several seconds later I hi
Ah, I can see that. Besides a single match I played on Doppelganger I play random maps exclusively. But back to the original post... it's all XP for your cap ship anyway. Phase in your cap ship and then follow up with the rest of your fleet. Phase jump any damaged ships back and let them heal. Take planet. Jump to next planet. Repeat. :)
I kind of like the ideas being discussed here. But I'm not sure what the proper implementation would be. I'm curious to see what AI improvements have been made for the upcoming 1.03 patch.
I thought that you make be on to something, Longabow, so I went back and checked. Like I had said these three worlds were in succession. The first one had a weak defense but had the Phase Accelerator artifact. The second had a weak defense but had both Porous Core and High Security Protocol. The third, with the higher defense, didn't have anything special. What it does have, however, are a total of four phase lanes. And it was a major choke point at the beginning of the game. Could that h
