Demigod is apparently aimed at the casual crowd as well as the 'serious' players, so I'm interested to see if any people miss features found in other games.
Demigod has no internal voice. That's probably a network issue, given the problems games have ALREADY, but forcing noobs to rely on typing while being challenged by learning everything else is sub-optimal. This doesn't really affect more serious players, as I'm sure we've all got good at typing brief, meaningful messages or just using VoIP, but it's not noob-friendly. Many 'casual' gamers pretty much ignore the little words onscreen in the middle of a fight.
It also has no contextual ping. It has a ping that says about as much as pings did more than a decade ago. Ideally you'd want a WiC-style Q-menu, to be able to quickly say 'need healing/minions/capture/advance at this location' instead of 'check the chat history I want something related to this point' pings. Again, well-drilled teams and people who know their way around the game won't need it that much, but it's better than pretending it's 1992 and typing a message in teamsay.
There also doesn't appear to be a friend-foe overlay. Given your team can have many colours of mobs/creeps/goobers/whatever, the only way to clearly see what's going on tactically is to look at the map, look at the screen, and synthesize. Being able to hold a button to highlight enemies (that attract the cursor to make it easier to target enemies in blobfights) would make this much easier, particularly for the 'casual' crowd who probably wonder why Oak's guys are always a bit green, even when he's evil.
People talk about hitpoint bars (which are already available) and these may allow the same distinction to be made, but cycling is inferior to UI filters and overlays.
Overall I'm impressed by the game, but particularly since it's not a simple game to slot into a genre or get your head around, making it more noob-friendly and accessible is good. Of course there are plenty of reasons not to bother (even 'casual players probably couldn't get a mic working in windows to save their lives') but Stardock in general has always been good with updating UIs to be more informative and accessible.
