Ok, so we all know Venom Spit is great. Ooze is mostly underestimated but people that has experience with it knows it's pretty good. I used to go with Early Spit (1-10) - Late Ooze (11-14), so I could handle the self-damage later in the game, but I realized I don't really need to. Passives are good but they aren't great until you max them out. So what the hell, I thought, why not just take all damage skills, all HP equips, and screw whoever comes thinking I'm just gonna spit and run? The results were good:
This is what I use:
1: Venom Spit I
2: Diseased Claws I
3: Ooze I
4: Ooze II
5/6: Venom Spit II/Foul Grasp I
6/5: Foul Grasp I/Venom Spit II
7: Ooze III
8: Venom Spit III
9: Inner Beast I
10: Ooze IV
11: Venom Spit IV
12: Inner Beast II
13: Inner Beast III
14: Diseased Claws II
15: Putrid Flow
16: Acclimation
17: Diseased Claws III
18: Enhanced Attributes I
19: Enhanced Attributes II
20: Enhanced Attributes III
Items:
Blood of the Fallen: 750f
Banded Armor: 550g
Unbreakable Boots: 1500g
Wand of Speed: 1250g
Hauberk of Life: 1750g
Nimoth Chest Armor: 1500g
Narmoth's Ring: 4000g
Groffling Warplate: 5200g (if you got the cash)
Heart of Life: 4250g (if you got the cash)
Some explanations: Ooze I is not really good first level, you lose a lot of health and return little damage. So I grab Venom Spit I at lv1 instead, so I can use the mana I have unlike Ooze centric builds which waste this altogether. Sure, you run out of mana after some shots. This is fine: Blood of the Fallen and Banded Armor puts you in a very advantageous position with 2750 HP plus the best starting armor, so you're not harassing people this time, you're beating face. Use your mana wisely, you're not spamming Venom Spit, you're opening with it and finishing with it once they turn tail.
Diseased Claws I first gives you a better bonus to speed than Inner Beast I. The DPS gain from the At
tack Speed is negligible (it's only ~4 DPS at lv2 with no att equips). Plus it's better to slow people down than catching up with them because your mates can gang upon better and you slow them from getting back to safety.
Anyway, you grab Ooze I at lv3 and probably not put it to much use, and Ooze II at lv4 when it becomes available. Now you're delivering 45 dps from Venom Spit I (not counting initial damage) and 70 dps from Ooze II and your own melee dps (144 dps unmodified) plus your 3755 HP when you picked Unbreakable Boots. Also with the gained mana you can use 4-5 spits before running out of mana. Lv5, you pick either Foul Grasp (my pick when teaming) or another level of Venom Spit (when I'm dealing with 1v1s). Spit gives you another damage spike. Post Mortem is skipped because you got AoE already, and it's usually faster. Then you follow with another level of Ooze, another level of Venom Spit, and now you're doing 220 DPS plus initial spit damage and melee dps at Lv8. At level 9 you got the choice of picking either Inner Beast or another lvl of Diseased Claws. Both are fine.
Lv10 hits, maxed Ooze. Lv11, Venom Spit IV. After this, max Inner Beast so you can pick Acclimation, usually at lv16, or 15 if you don't need Putrid Flow for some strange reason, or you're getting spammed with skills. Max Diseased Claws if you want and put the rest of the points in stats. That's it.
Speed issues: You run into them, of course, at least until you buy your Wand of Speed. But it's all ok. If they decide to go with speedy items (Swift Anklet, Boots of Speed), that means they're not using Health items and you beat them down fast because they can't outlast you. If they are smart and go with the Health items, then catching up is no problem because you're the fastest and you slow them down. It also means you can possibly skip Wand of Speed and go for next health item on the list.
Mana management: Yea, it's a problem, but what are you gonna do, you gotta sacrifice something. With Unbreakable Boots you get a decent pool of mana, but you lack mana per second to fill it up. It's okay, seriously. You just gotta stop spamming spit, because you're not harassing this time. 4 shots of spit and grasp is ok to finish someone off, less if you team up. Most of the encounters start with Venom Spit, then you turn on Ooze (if it's off), close up and wail on them, if you got mana and they stay, spit in between to speed things up, saving for the last shot. Combat Mana Potions are a good purchase here at 200g, normally I don't leave without em: they give you the last bit of mana to spit them or grasp em for the last time. But you also have to remember, this is also an early Ooze build, and as such, you're not useless without mana like when you use the Spit centric build. Crystal trips aren't bad when you just pushed someone out of a lane.
Health management: Well, for the most part, you're gonna be losing health when using Ooze. It's ok tho, when you're not fighting, you turn it off and you still have a very good regen rate. Turn it on for a bit against creeps, turn it off. It gets natural after a while, keeping your finger on 3 all the time. You also got sooo much HP. People will even complain. Ooze slows auto attacks too. Once you get Nimoth's Ring you can also leech health out of creep waves (turn off Ooze). You honestly don't need to have +50 hps to counter Ooze IV, just get your HP items, if they got hps, cool, if they don't, more HP is better. Don't pick hps only items like Slayer's Wraps, you don't need them. I don't even get Heart of Life most of the times, I prefer to buy locks and save for cats. Combat Health Potions are nice if you think you're gonna get killed on your trip to the crystal after losing a fight (say snipe, spit, etc). You can do off with them though, if you know when to run, because you got a lot of HP.
To sum it up:
Pros:
- Very high damage output.
- Increased survivability and staying power.
- Very cheap gold wise allows to put gold into citadel upgrades and consumables.
- AoE creeps efficiently, works against minions, and is better in group fights.
- Counters to Venom Spit does not stop you.
- Works against towers.
Cons:
- Requires heavy mana management.
- Overall slower than the other builds.
- Reliance on some items makes your life harder if you need to use gold somewhere else.
Anyway, I think this is it for now. Try it out. I appreciate your input.
