There are a lot of jerks in online play, it's an unfortunate effect of having an online game. That said, I doubt that would be the majority response. Most people I've seen/played with would have probably offered advice and been very happy that you were asking for help rather than just blazing ahead (like so many of the self dubbed pros tend to do even if their strategy is failing).

Sorry that you got a bad game, but please don't either A: blame the entire community for a pair of morons or B: stop asking for help. Both are good things and the fact that two people were too concerned with having to win to help someone else isn't the norm. As a side note dying to a double team is not a noob action, especially not a UB+Reg double team. 90% of players out there would die to that, simply because it's one of the highest burst damage mid-long range combos.

If you are just starting out playing online after understanding the game from single player play, the best course of action is as follows. You should host your own 3v3 with "No Noobs" in the title. This way you will have a chance at getting competent players on your team, as well as the other team. When players join message them by private message, click on there name and send message. Explain "I am just starting online multiplayer play, and am trying to better myself. It is appreciated if you would play and share experiences in game" or something along those lines. You just need 1 player to stay in and consent to this, and then allow the rest of the team to join up and ready up, then launch. You will learn more from playing with better players in this fashion than you ever will joining 'good' or 'pro' games only to have your team rage quite, or playing noob only games where the players understand nothing about the games true mechanics.

Best of luck... (the learning curve isn't to high, a week of play an hour or so a day with decent players will get you pretty good.)
