Star Wars Mod

I figured since it is inevitable, I will start a thread to get ideas out on a star wars mod. Who will the sides be? What will the map look like? Units? Tech? etc.

Why wouldn't they be...

Then again I suppose the New Republic and Galactic Alliance have Star Destroyers...

The rebels should get a special unit that specializes in boarding actions. Make a special animation that it comes up alongside an enemy ship and attaches to it, and it'll have a certain percentage of victory. And if succesfull the rebels would acquire that ship.

Since in the SW universe, most of the rebel ships were stolen imperial ships. Even their famous X-wings were imperial designed fighters.

why would they have special units, I've never seen Rebel commandos in more than heavy cloaks and some chest armor. Whereas Imperial Space Troopers are actually designed specifically to sabotage and board ships in space http://images.wikia.com/starwars/images/b/b0/Zero-G_Assault_%27Spacetrooper%27_Mk._I_Schematics.jpg

I know, but it would be kinda hard to make it all work in Sins. Since the rebels attained their ships through donations, defectors, stealing. So it'd be a nice fix to just give them a ship that can steal enemy ships.

I attempted to make an interdictor class ship by editing the 'Ion Blast' ability so that it would only disable phase jumping. I lowered the cooldown and ramped up the range and also lowered antimatter cost. It works excellent at stopping ships. I even managed to stop a ship immediatly before it entered hyperspace which was pretty sweet. The only problem I ran into was this: When the Interdictor is attacking a ship, for example a capital that can withstand a decent amount of attacks, it will use the modded ion blast only on the one ship. So my question is, How can I get it to rapid-fire at as many ships in the enemy fleet as possible so that it is essentially like a phase jump inhibitor? Also, how long should the effect last? I have it at 45 right now for the first level. Does anyone have any suggestions to perfect this thought? Or disprove its usefulness...

Most of the time the rebels got ships from factions that were leaving the Empire (Mon Cals and Bothens as example). If they did "steal" something, typically they only stole the design or a prototype (like the X-wing).

I kinda lol'd at that zero-g storm trooper.

I think it would be great if there was a Yuuzhan Vong race. The old imperial vs rebel is getting old.

Derbal, you should look into make it an area of effect weapon. I'm pretty sure that's possible, since there are other AoE abilities. That would make it behave more like an Interdictor and you'd also have to consider some strategy as it would affect your ships too.

The problem is though, how do you translate such things into gameplay? How do you make it so that when the empire starts research on a fighter, the rebels can come in and steal it? That's why I suggested the stealing ship, it may not be as realistic, but realism sometimes can not be fullfilled.

Also, an era suggestion could be late in the Legacy era with the new galactic empire and the Galactic Alliance. Would be three factions, Xel's insurgency, the Galactic Alliance, and Kraytes Empire. Every other era has been done atleast several times, but the Legacy era has only ever been touched on mildly in it's premier comics.

Actually, with Interdictors, I would suggest porting the PJI ability and corresponding (de)buff to a ship. You end with a mobile platform with the same AoE as a PJI. A much more elegant solution than a ship firing a gazillion ion bolts at everything, and truer to canon.

and what of superweapons?

will we expect resreaching the Death Star in the near future?

I think the general consensus was that there would be no Death Stars untill someone comes up with a way of turning planets into space dust. ;) As it is, it would look silly having a Death Star just "decolonize" a planet.

Well, anyway, that's my opinion. :)

The most realistic interdictor would be to have have an ability where you click it and shoot the ground. Then it'd cover an area around where you shot, and anything in that area couldn't jump to hyperspace. On a downside your interdictor couldn't move either. And the interdiction field stayed up untill the interdictor was destroyed, or the ability turned off.

Ok, to answer a few questions I've seen here:

Right now the first Era of play is going to be somewhere around post Return of the Jedi. It may be expanded later, but there's a lot to chew on already.

The team has been working, the models are done for the most part (and have been there since before sins was released), but getting them into the game presents a few problems as of now. So don't worry about seeing people here focusing on building maps.

I suggest that if you are interested in the mod, you join the Warlords forum and post your discussions/questions regarding the mod there. It's quite painful having to go through such a long thread, and chances are that we could skip many or your replies. :)

I finally did it. In order to create an effective Interdictor Class, you have to give one of your ships the "abilityhyperspacedisruption." Then modify the BuffHyperspaceDisruptionTarget. In that file, add a entityboolmodifier for "DisablePhaseJump." Then, you can change the range that you want it to be, etc. For some reason, though, my Interdictor would not actually shoot. It would just sit there. I kind of like this though because it leaves it extremely vulnerable so it is only good for support. Thoughts?

That's actually how SW interdictors operate, shields, weapons, and propulsion go offline when they create an interdiction field. It's why the rebels used a common tactic of focusing fire on the interdictor, because the captain would be forced to terminate the interdiction field to restore shields and weapons and fight back. Then the rebels could fly off.

lol. The name Thrawn was already taken... but the guy hasn't made a single post (here or on the other Star Dock forums)

I know what you mean first I tried GAThrawn, VAThrawn, ViceAThrawn, AThrawn, EmperorThrawn, (Which for some reason was available this morning so I took it) before getting EmperThrawn.

Why is everybody focusing on the map? That is secondary imho.
Getting the ships visuals and abilities right should be the priority.

Because many of us(me included) don’t know how but still want to help in some way

Interdictors lose motivation when they deploy a gravity well? I don't remember the Ultimate Guide to Vehicles and Vessels mentioning that. Are you sure? Or is that just how it worked in one or two books?

Larger version of the same map posted earlier(text is easier to read).

I posted my interdictor into the mod Downloads section, so it should be up in a couple of days.

I'd rather just see Yuuzhan Vong era or LoF (got Relevation today!!!)

I'd like an era that even a non-SW-nerd who doesn't have a full collection of books can identify with :p So I think something slightly post-ROTJ would be best.

So do you guys know how close you are to a beta version that we could start testing? I'm sure you've got some work to do still, but I bet a lot of people here are ready and willing to beta test it.

concerning space combat: yes.
but unfortunately, the ground combat is not in.

and when EaW came out, it was the best Star Wars strategie game i've ever played. i never played rebellion though, but i guess the graphics in EaW where much better than in Rebellion ;)

So i think EaW was a great game and i'm also looking forward to this mod
