and the guys are wearing no space suits

They could be inside a pressurized space station. Or even wearing "field effect" suits seen in some Trek books. (Force fields for space suits... fun idea!)

I'm aware of this however I based the claim on the fact that I 'think' you can see some terrain in the background, it looks a bit too vast to be a space station. However I am by no means the authority on this and am only speculating.

Oh yea I think that back in the day, when the orginal Star Trek was on TV with Shatner and such that they launched the Enterprise from Earth. I could however be wrong, it a long time ago I last watched the early episodes.

I agree, it looks from the teaser that it is in fact being built on Earth :o

It is, there is a big hooha about it among Trek fans, and the producers have confirmed their having Enterprise built at a drydock in San Francisco.

I for one don't care whether its built in Space or Drydock, since it has less effect on the story than a Goldfish hiccupping on Mars has to my credit rating.

Don't make fun of Goldfishes :( They have feewingth too!

I recall reading it was built on earth, assembled in space...

Also anyone know if Shatner is in it? As of Jan 12th this year, I heard he might be...
No he is not from what I have read. He is irked about it as well.
Sad...
Right, Shatner isn't in it and he's made it quite known that he's pretty pissed about it :P
Reply #34 Top
Shatner was in one without Nimoy now he's in one without Shatner.

I bet Spock is the last one of the crew to die and he is recalling this on his deathbed or something...
Well to be fair he did die already so everything else is gravy for him now. :d Plus his character has a natural lifespan a couple times a humans. Moreover he is the most respected of the original crew.

Anyway Shatner has tried for years to shake off the JTK image/curse and now that he has done it and achieved success with Boston Legal he complains about not being in another ST movie - I simply dont get it...

that's because you dont live in america :O

Yeah, well, Hollywood is pretty incomprehensible to most of us, too.

You guys are just NOW finding out about this movie? The Trek community has known about it for a long time. Heh, all the "purist" are in an uproar about the new big-E. I think it looks awesome, and i am from the "purist" generation (35-45 years old). It doesnt matter where they build the freaking thing. This is JJ Abrams baby now. Not berman, and bragas regurgitated ENT crap. Lots of rumor control about the plot. Yea i am kinda disappointed about the time travel rumors yet again, but i think unlike killer B trek it is time travel that "causes" the problem, and its up to good ol kirk, spock, and mccoy to solve it. They got the guy that makes "new voyages" in the cast too. He has nothing but praise for the new film. James Cawley is about as "purist" as a TOS purist can get.

I will give this new trek a chance. New director, new vision, It may turn out to be as good, or better than the re-imagined galactica.

After this movie i think Trek needs a nice long 10+ year vacation.

All i know is all my modeling work for a sins TOS mod stopped because of this movie.

Cool! I'm a purist gen guy as well for what it is worth and the killer B effect had me wrenching many times over the years. To this day I dont understand how those guys were able to control the franchise for so long. Anyway, as you I am giving this movie a chance. JJ is a solid director and he has never maligned anything that I'm aware of in his career. The fact he is using basically unknown actors tells me his primary concern is the story not "star value". Anyway, I have part of Trek United since its inception and have followed whispers of a new movie for a very long time. Thus I took the I'll believe it when I see approach.

Oh don't get me wrong, I've known about it for a while now. Teaser trailers always eem to kick up alot of attention is all, as is quite evident. Shatner and Abrams did sit down and talk about including him in the movie.
Abrams said in July 2007 that the production was "desperately trying to figure out a way to put him in" but that to "shove him in...would be a disaster."

Known about it since the first bit of news about it was released. As someone pointed out, however, a teaser draws a lot more attention than "Working on ST movie, no details" :P

I respect JJ's decision not to include Shatner. He wants to focus on the story, and not toss in a cameo for a cameo's sake. If rumor control is correct, and the movie does start off in the late TNG era then Shatners Kirk is long dead. It would be pretty silly to sacrifice a good story just to resurrect "old kirk" to please a few old school fans. If old Spock interacts with his younger self then that pretty much confirms a time travel plot. I just hope they are smart with it.

TBH i seriously doubt a new series will come of this. Perhaps a new line of movies, but no series. If by some small miracle a TV series does happen they need to keep the killer B's out of it. Trek needs new ideas, and hiring the old timers isnt gonna help. Everyone speculated a reboot was going to happen. The question was when. I am just glad its JJ doing the reboot, and not the killer B's.

Read the books -- Kirk gets resurrected lol.

Looks cool, but I don't really like the trailer.

In Shatner's books. The books aren't considered cannon though only tv/motion pictures are.

Hasn't the whole Trek plot been done to death? I mean really, that last TV show Enterprise embodied everything I hated about Star Trek (preachy, corny, "how could they give that man/woman a command?!", "shouldn't he/she be relieved of command in disgrace?!", "shouldn't these aliens act a little less human and shouldn't the humans act a little more human?" ect...). In all of the series there was only one captain who did nothing to deserve being drummed out of the service in disgrace, and that was Sisko.

And the problem that another Star Trek series would encounter (outside of pre-existing trekkies that, while numerous, don't quite add up to an audience sufficient to support a television show) is that the new Battlestar Galactica has set a very high bar.

The Killer B curse. Yeah it has been done to death by those guys.
JJ is a whole new guy, the final guy for this generation, taking ST where it has not gone before... (I'll stop here before someone pukes). :SURPRISED:

Sisko

Sisko was awesome :) They got just the right actor to play him, too.

Yeah, I liked Sisko :D
