Yeah, I liked Sisko

Me too he was collected, brash, bold, authoritarian and humanitarian all at the same time.

Kirk would have kicked Sisko's ass...

Nah-uh. Sisko could beat up scores of Klingons, he would've mopped the floor with Kirk!

Kirk would have kicked Sisko's ass...

Hah! Sisko ripped the heart out of a Klingon fleet and three dominion fleets... not to mention engaging in countless ship to ship actions over the course of two major wars and several smaller ones. He did all that without needlessly endangering his men in order to satisfy his own sense of morality (unlike many other Trek captains) and of all the leaders he was best at keeping his priorities straight (1. his mission, 2. his soldiers, 3. everything else).

Kirk got to gallivant around the galaxy for a few years, and sleep with green women.

Sisko would kill Kirk. :HOT:

For so many years the Picard vs. Kirk debate has raged. It has become an internet institution.

I feel privileged to be present at the birth of another one.

The "whomever" captain vs Kirk debates aren't near as obnoxious as the Star Trek vs Star Wars debates. DOH! :SURPRISED: (leaves thread)

You all forget that Q has really controlled all of this all along! It is Q who will be telling the story! I know this cause The Pink Space Ponies WWW Linkhave a spy in the Q Continuum!
Reply #58 Top
Ha, they leaned on Q way too much in TNG, crutch crutch :(

I've seen that one resolved in a number of comparisons, always in favor of Star Wars in terms of sheer megatonnage and firepower... since they are both completely fictional worlds whose only boundaries are completely made up it is pretty irrelevant.

The command qualities exemplified by various leaders within these shows are eminently rateable though... however for fear of becoming weird (weirder I should say... I've never been a trekky and have every intention of avoiding that fate), I shall depart this thread as well.

Personally speaking I think the entire Q thing ruined TNG and did damage to the concept of ST. I cant believe the ST community accepted it.
Reply #61 Top
I've always thought of Q as being an extension of the whole "any sufficiently advanced technology is magic" concept -- the technology his species developed was so great, they themselves were changed by its power or something.
Reply #62 Top
Well the entire ascended being thing is just a little to much for me.
Reply #63 Top
i liked the Q idea until they started using him over and over and over and, well, over
Reply #64 Top
Yep the ultimate "get out of jail free card". No need to do good story telling just work the Q hook into whatever seemingly unbelievable plot the writers come up with next - rinse and repeat...
Reply #65 Top
Q was only in 7 episodes of TNG... I liked him!
Reply #66 Top
Really only seven? I could swear it was more then that throughout the shows history.

Additionally I always wondered why he never STV out that much after all they did for him.
Reply #67 Top
Q came into the picture, because of genes obsession of Captain Kirk/Picard vs godlike being. He was also obsessed with psychotic starfleet brass as well. How many shows had rogue captains, or admirals running amok?

I liked Q, but seven appearances was a little too much, and it got old quick. He worked for the pilot, and the end of TNG, and that was it. The rest were stupid filler episodes.

Star Trek: The Next Generation:

* "Encounter at Farpoint"
* "Hide and Q"
* "Q Who?"
* "Déjà Q"
* "Qpid"
* "True Q"
* "Tapestry"
* "All Good Things..."

8 episodes... sorry <3 and remember TNG had a total of 178 episodes over its 7 year run.

I loved the episode where Picard got shot in the chest damaging his heart, and as the episode starts he is waking up , and Picard asks where he is , and Q says , Heaven and I am GOD!

Reply #69 Top
Yeah, that was a good episode.

I would like to see a series after the Federation falls. There have been so many where they win by the skin of thier teeth. After the Enterprise series I want to see them lose.

I know that that is cynical, but that would be an interesting place to go!
