Freespace 2 mod any one?

Just curious if any one mentioned a freespace 2 mod? I think that would be great seeing as its one of the best space sims ever made.. With a 3 races too, terrans, vusedans, and shivans.

Well its not a Sathanas but i have finished a port of the FreeSpace 1 & 2 music to Sins. (~90megs)

I also managed to get some portraits done using material from the original games. I included the FreeSpace Maps i made as well. I modded my String file to use all FreeSpace Race names but it is specific to one of uzi's older planet mods so i didn't release it here.

There is sooo much material to glean from the original games, i cant wait until this mod gets in full swing.

Next i'm thinking about replacing some TEC voices with voices from the FreeSpace games, Advent with Vasudan. Also start getting images of ships, weapons, research items, etc for use in research trees.

I even converted the original intro films to work on Sins startup but they are a bit big for upload right now.

Anyway, just a teaser for now.

I'm just itchin to get going on this. The_Regicide, you mentioned you were working out some tech tree's. I can start grabbing images for 'em if you want? I have been putting off doing models in the hopes that someone else who KNOWS how can take care of it. I have all the apps, tools, importers, exporters, converters you can think of to do it all, just missing that KNOWLEDGE stuff to make it happen in a reasonable amount of time(like this year). better start reading them tutorials.

Hello all. I was working on a Freespace 2 mod for Universe at War, but I decided to switch to the Sins engine. Being new to the game, and mod tools, I have tried very unsuccessfully to get some models in game. The XSI Mod Tool material editor is a pain and I have no idea how to work it. Also, the model that I exported to XSI and then tried to convert using the convertxsi tool didn't work. It said there were no vertices. If someone could offer some assistance, I could start getting some models in game fairly quickly. Nice job with you guys have so far.

Edit: Well, I managed to get one model in game, but I'm still having trouble with the textures. I guess I can just edit the mesh file manually to reference the texture file, but it doesn't convert my UV coordinates. I wish someone could show me the proper way. Also, how do you add "hardpoints" such as weapons to the model? I can figure out the code stuff, it's just Mod Tool that's in my way.

I don't know how long these files will be up. If they go down, please say so. I'll find a different spot to stick 'em.

Anyways, this contains a few sounds I've made using sound effects from Freespace 2 for Sins. I know the Tec is for the Kol and the other two beam sounds are for Advent. The explosion is just simply for capital ships.

I only decided to post these now since it appears this thread isn't dead. So eh.

This mod needs a name (if it even exists. If it does, everyone needs to work together on it so we can finally blow up those damn Shivans.) For the name, how about "Sins of a Shivan Empire"? If I had any idea how to mod, I would gladly help out. Hell, I'm willing to learn well, anything, just b/c I want to have a massive Colossus/Sathanas battle in Sins.

BoE Syndrome? What's that? We just want massive fleet battles!

Heh, Battle of Endor Syndrome is annoying back in Freespace 2. I could never full fill my desire for massive fleet battles in the game (all my ideas for MODs where to large scale). Here on the other hand its not only possible, its the point of the game! yay :D

Hey, someone help out Hoho5000. He's trying to import the models! No models, no mod. I would help, but I know nothing about modding. And like I said before, the people need to work together on this mod so it ends up as more than a bunch of weird slapped together files because no-one knew what everyone else was doing.

Yes, help would be nice. I did managed to figure out how to get the textures working, but of course, more problems have arisen. No matter which way I rotate the model in Mod Tool, it always shows up pointed down in game. Also, the meshpoints, while I get how to make them, I don't know how to reference them in the code. There isn't anything in depth in the documentation. I'm going to mess around with it tomorrow and see if I can get the Orion working properly.

The meshpoints? As in "Ability-0" etc? They are all automatic (or in the case of particles refrenced by the name with "Flair-" first then the name of the particle effect). "Weapon-0" refers to the first weapon in the ship file, bomb is where the planet bombing effect comes from etc etc. Is that what you mean or something else? The only thing I don't really understand is how the orientation works.

We're all just now learning how to mod Sins, and if anyone with experience doing so wants to help out and teach us some stuff, they're very welcome. I've got the GOTY Edition of Freespace 2 with all the bonus stuff and extra music, plus the bonus campaigns and can direct us on any of that to focus on before and after the Freespace storyline. Once we get some renders up, I'll also be creating a ModDb site for us to advertise with. All we need is that first show of progress to get that going, and ModDb means even more members for the team.

You know what I really love about Sins of a Solar Empire? Its the world's biggest case of Battle of Endor Syndrome, which cause its victims to go absolutely insane and create impossibly huge fleet battles, to the delight of players and the misery of their lagged processors.

Things are happening again.  Have patience, Before 2009 ends there will be a FS2 mod for Entrenchment.  Not many details for now but it will have the HQ ship models and maybe even freespace-ish tech trees.  I wont be doing much on the forum until we get it closer to release but it is coming.

 

So if someone wants to contribute i could use one other person.  And by contribute i mean actually work on game files (text and art files).  If you can model, great but i dont expect there to be many people for that.  I want to keep this small and manageable so one more should be all we need.  send me a message if you are interested.
