[MOD] Sins Plus (by Uzii) v1.3a Final

[MOD] Sins Plus (by Uzii) v1.3a Final

A mod that adds, not alters.

Some of you may have noticed I haven't been around as much as usual, and it is with some regret that I won't be continuing this mod as a stand alone any more. I have many reasons, but it is mainly my short attention span which has brought this on. I have done my best to produce a top quality mod, and to help out as many people as humanly possible. I was here at the very dawn of modding this game, and I would like to think my input has helped progress slightly. I will check the forums occasionally and offer my help where I can. If you have a specific modding problem, give me a PM and I'll try and help you the best I can.

I will be working with DANMAN, who is producing a 'Super Mod' which includes Sins Plus, Bailknights Graphics, Sins Enhanced, and his own team's work. I will continue to give support for Sins Plus, and I will help out others where I can, but no further work will be done on this mod. Please check DANMAN's mod:

7 Deadly Sins
NO SCREENSHOT/LOG = NO RESPONSE
You can find how to get the Log at the bottom of this First Post. To upload a Screenshot, use Imageshack and copy the 'Direct Link To Image' address your are given, and paste it here. Take as many screenshots as you think is necessary, or of any little thing you might think will help. For those of you without common sense, this means if you aren't sure you put it in the right place, take screenshots of where you put it, with the address bar visible. If its a problem in-game, take the screenshot in-game, showing the problem.

For a Multiplayer version of Sins Plus merged with a BailKnights Graphical Mod, see Adama Repack

As always I am open to suggestions, constructive criticism, and any new planets, bonuses, or little extras you'd like to see in the game.

Ship Graveyard
Random ships will be in these areas, dead in space. They can be captured by the Colony Frigates of all the Races.

4 New Research Subjects

Improved Tunneling (Level 4)
Widespread tunneling with improved equipment increases the population on Barren and Urban planets, as well as Asteroids. (Barren, Urban, and Asteroid population max increase)
Level 1: 10%
Level 2: 20%

Crew Derelict Ship (Level 5)
Allows Colony Frigates to capture derelict vessels found in ship graveyards.

Gas Giant Colonisation (Level 6)
Allows colonisation of Gas Giants.

Improved Anti-Grav (Level 7)
Allows larger colony platforms above Gas Giants due to improved Anti-Grav technology.
(Gas Giant population max increase)
Level 1: 25%
Level 2: 50%

66 New Planetary Bonuses
If you think I am listing them, you are gravely mistaken. ;)

However, in order to enjoy the wider range of Bonuses, I recommend changing the value of the 'planetBonusDensity' on the map you plan to play on. This can be found on the 8th line down of all the .galaxy files by opening them with Notepad, or something similar. These can be found in your main Sins directory at:
C:\Program Files\Stardock\TotalGaming\Sins of a Solar Empire\Galaxy

or to find custom made maps at:
C:\Documents and Settings\**YOUR_USERNAME**\Local Settings\Application Data\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\Galaxy

The default value is 0.400000, this means that 40% of Planets will have a Bonus. By changing this to 70%
(0.700000) or more you should notice Bonuses becoming more frequent. Enjoy!

If anyone wants to design a planet texture for either a new planet, or an existing one, please do, and PM me a preview and a link to the file. You will be given full credit if I use it. I recommend copying one of the existing planet textures in the Textures folder, and editing that. Don't forget, the light(_cl) and dark(_da) side both need altering. Good luck.

How to Enable the Debug Logs
Go to where you Mods folder is, but don't open it. There will be other folders, most for Saves, but one for Screenshots, and another called Setting. Open that, then open the file inside named: user.SETTING (open with Notepad). Now search for the line: LogOutput FALSE, and change it to TRUE. When it crashes next, go back to the folder with Saves, Mods, Screenshots, etc, and there should be a new folder called Debug. The log will be in there.

Hi , just wonted to say that I think your mod is great and keep up the great work.

If it is any help here is a screenshot of the sins 1.3/a.3a game opening quirk (its not enough of an issue to call it an error!)

and one showing the mod checksum

The screen resolution is 1280x1024 running XP using a radeon x1950 pro.

I have been following this thread with interest and think you are on the right lines with the various changes you have made to your mod to rebalance the planets. I also agree that the original shipyards (whilst great), could easily have unbalanced a game and there a research tech was a good idea.

@ Everyone with Loading Screen issues.
It is in there because it shows the credits on one of the loading screens, and I have tried to replicate it, and still have not been able to do so. So, I have come to the conclusion that it must be something to do with the way the folder has been compressed. I ask anyone who is using v1.3a to go into the Window folder and upload the following files to rapidshare or something similar:
LoadScreen.BRUSHES
LoadScreen.WINDOW
DO NOT ZIP THEM IN ANY WAY. JUST UPLOAD THEM AS THEY ARE.

@ Itharius
"but the derelicts themselves are boring"
Why?
"have the nasty effect of gluing any AI ship that enters it to that gravity well"
Elaborate please.
"make it so that you don't have to explore every single planet to find the planet bonuses"
Are you mad sir? This is the whole point of the bonuses and the Exploration button. Different planets have different bonuses. I'm not going to make a planet with every bonus just so you can view them all.

@ Hybok
Thank you, you explained that very well. I have also replied to your PM.

@ Robert Viener
"I deleted the Startup_Loadscreen0.dds everything fine."
Now that is interesting. I thought it may be the text files, but this would suggest it is the texture file itself. Interesting, and thank you for the response.

@ Entaru
I will PM you momentarily. I know exactly what the problem is, thank you very much for the screenshot, it is exactly what I need, and because of it, I can help you get going with just a short message, rather than a conversation of pages. Thank you.

@ ShadyOcUK
I am eternally grateful for that first screenshot, and I should now be able to fix the problem. Could you do as I have asked above and upload or send me your LoadScreen.BRUSHES/.WINDOW files, this should make it crystal clear where the problem lies. Thank you again for that screenshot, I am in your dept, and so is anyone else having this problem.

Thank you all for the feedback, it is always appreciated.

Great work Uzzi, i downloaded 1.03A from file front last night. I deleted all mods in my mod folder and installed the new mod. Zero problems here, ran two quick small random map games.
So your loading screen was ok? Thats strange, did you check every race character on the loading screen, or just one or two?
The two files you requested

The first image I posted was the loading screen for Tec

Below is the loading screen for Advent

And finaly the loading screen for Vasari

Hopefully the split image of the advent lady gives you a clue towards a solution.

Its my pleasure to post the images and files and it is I that am in your debt for providing the mod.

Erm, I meant upload the ones from my mod, it appears you have uploaded the ones from the game directory. Those screens are interesting indeed. I will investigate.

Edit: Oh, what graphic settings are you on?
Edit2: Could you also upload you "Startup_Loadscreen0.DDS" in the textures folder, from my mod.

I can't use your 1.3 planets in GF and the link is dead.
How's your progress with the ringworld (youre working on it, right?)? It would be awesome if your next version has it.
I can't model, but someone has hinted that they might be able to do one for me, we'll have to see ;)
sorry for the confusion on my part over which files you wanted, hopefully these are the ones you want.

http://rapidshare.com/files/103855163/LoadScreen.window.html

http://rapidshare.com/files/103866296/Startup_Loadscreen0.dds.html

I cant remember what graphic settings I was using and that machine has suffered a viral death ,so I will check back when I have reinstalled everything.

Well, they are all A-OK. This is a very strange bug, and the fact I can't replicate it doesn't help. The only thing I can suggest, is a completely fresh download and install of my mod. Other than that, sorry, its out of my hands. I can try to fix it by putting back the vanilla texture and vanilla LoadScreen files, but thats something you can do easily. This is a very very strange bug, and its annoying me that I can't fix it.
Id like to use all the planets in GF, however the link is dead. Anyone have any solutions or easy ways to do this??
@uzii
Hey uzii an idea just popped into my head. Do you think its possible for planet bonuses to contain "researches?" for example, get a certain research (eg shields) off a planet bonus?

just some ideas
Uzii,
The update is awesome. And everything works fine for me. No problems with the loading screens. I did a FRESH load in, meaning that I disabled any mods running, rebooted SINS, then enabled your mod. ALL is well, with no problems at all. I am working my merge mod now, and will let you know when its done.

In 1.03 does removing modded loadscreen file allow original to be active?

Great job Uzzi, played another game last night. No problems.

The naval base is a great idea. One idea... rename the Old Naval Base to the Death Star? With a change in graphics..... Keep the same stats.
@ Polt22
I have now removed the link, as it was only for 1.2b, not 1.3a. I believe you have to move the GalaxyScenarioDef file somewhere, but I'm not sure where.

@ Auggie12
Can't be done, well, not yet at least, sorry man.

@ DANMAN
Thats good to hear. Must be a small minority who experience it.

@ Robert
I'm not sure, but at a guess no. I recommend a fresh download and install of my mod. Other than that, I can't help. It works OK on mine, and on most other people's. At least the gameplay is unaffected. ;)

@ Kreyson
Err, good to hear no problems, but Death Star is a little unoriginal don't you think :d

Thanks to everyone for the feedback.

Edit: Uh oh, I posted reply number 666.... (:(
Reply #668 Top
all you people who want to use the new planets in GF only hawe to copy "GalaxyScenarioDef.galaxyScenarioDef" from sinplus/Gameinfo into the same folder as GF. :)  Relic planets my make the map refuse to start if they are are set as present and not "Type-SinsPlusPlanets"  :SNIFF!:
Edit: Lazerbug has the right idea, thank you sir.

Edit2: Lazerbug, could you elaborate on the Relic planet problem, I don't understand what you are saying...
every time I have tried to start a map with a relic planet placed on the map sins just jumps right out into windows and makes a errordump. But this only happens when placed at a point on the map, if randomly selected its all ok. was driving me crazy trying to find out why the map I made in GF didn´t work until I removed all relic planets on the map. then it worked just fine.  :SNIFF!:
Now that, is a very weird bug. I just checked the GSD file, and it all seems fine to me. Maybe GF has trouble reading it... strange.
Figured I'd make my entrance into this thread finally ;)

I haven't gotten the opportunity to play many user mods for various reasons, but recently but I've been putting in some time with yours Uzii and I'd like to say it's very well done, awesome job ;)

Also, my loading screens are fine :P
oh. :SURPRISED:
GF workes just fine, it is when I try to play test the new map that the fun stars.
At first I thought that it was my map editing that was acting up, and tried removing the alterations. But it still didn´t work so I thought that it could be that the new planets did´t have any icons so I tried to give them icons.
Still didn´t work, so by switching all new 1.3 planets to SinsPlusPlanets one by one I at last realised that it was the 3 relic worlds that I centerd the map around that made it fail to work, and as soon as they where switched it worked just fine.
So it works as long I don´t ad any relic planets in GF.

And it works good I love this mod Uzii good work.  :CONGRAT:
@ Annatar
Ah, good to see you here ;) And good to hear you like it, and don't have the loading screen problem. Thanks for the post :D

@ Lazerbug
Oh, right. Well, thats even stranger. I'm not really accustomed to the GF and the workings of it, but it must be a line or letter I have missed somewhere that causes this, very peculiar indeed.
@ Uzii
As always, great job. Your mods add a great variation to an already great game.

I added a download link on my forum for "Sins Plus v1.3 on Galaxy Forge" so that people can use your planets on Galaxy Forge once again. I don't know if you want to add the link to the top of your page like you did before, but if you do feel free to do so.

Here's the link: https://forums.sinsofasolarempire.com/304538
