I can say that for the first time in a really long time I'm considering leaving Opera.  I've been using it a few hours so far and it's definately good.

What are your thoughts?

And slimy mongrel bastards constantly evolving new and covert ways to infect peoples PC's and frequently releasing them on the net. As hard as they may try, the PC security people are facing and uphill battle to keep pace with the nasties being released on a daily basis.

AVG 7.5 didn't have any built in rootkit detection, 8.0 does though.  I'd be surprised if it had that problem.

My point exactly, Savyg.

Anyone who was relying on AVG for rootkit protection was, um, how many YEARS behind the leaders, NOD32 and KAV?

So, I'm just saying, if you don't want to be a zombie or an identity theft statistic, I think it's worth $40/year for a total, top drawer solution. :)

Considering they had one seperate from their main app, I wouldn't say they have inexperience.

 

What the best antivirus is is an opinion that varies from person to person, so I think it's safe to say any of the top ten or so will do well for most people.  Myself, I'll stick with AVG until I get a reason not to.  Although 8.0 started out a lot buggier than I expected it to, it's still done alright by me in general.

 

As to NOD32, there's no way in hell I'll ever install it again, since the one time I did it hosed my system to the point I needed to reinstall.

 

Safe habits mean a lot more than what antivirus you're using, anyway.  I haven't even had a virus in many years.

using a browser that 'gives' you thousands of trojans make you stupid.

Not using the proper security software and possibly poor surfing habits are what's giving you the trojans, not the choice of browsers.

Tried IE8 beta and same problem I have had w/IE7.. too easily corrupted. Opera is OK but bookmarks manager is confusing. Chrome is too minimal. Orca too buggy. Firefox 3 still seems best overall.

I'm not leaving Opera, though i really like IE8.. it just doesn't do :P
