"Hardware base instancing required"

Thats the error I get when I try to launch demigod. I know as a fact that my computer is teh uber suck (FX 5200) but I thought I might atleast be able to play on lowest settings at a ok framerate. I have the latest drivers. Is it my card or could there be another issue? Like antivirus software? I have no idea what hardware base instancing is so >.> I can install this at my friend's house and play there for a couple of months till I get the cash to get a new computer so this isn't the world's biggest issue.

Yeah, I don't believe the GeForce 5 series supports that technology.

A FX5200 nowadays is only good for wordprocessing and bricking. Even if you do /novalidate, you'll just play a slideshow.

 Well if I get a job this month maybe I'll have a new computer in October/November.

I'd say save up for a more powerful computer. $2,000 and a darn good coupon can get a good deal.

$2000 gets you a brand spanking new computer.  $500 gets you last generation's hardware which is hardly worse than the bleeding edge.  Tiger Direct is selling bare bones systems (processor, RAM, PSU, motherboard) for $200-$400.

But you're probably assuming I'd buy from Dell. NOOOOOOOOOOO thanks. :annoyed:

$1300 will get you a perfectly good computer to build yourself, especially if you have a monitor. Much more and you're doing a merry jig into the land of decreasing returns. I'll figure out the parts for you if you'd like, just PM me.

Heck, I paid less than that in January to build a machine with a Lian-Li chassis (easily avoided expense, but I'm picky) and an 8800GT (back before the price cuts). One could build a machine with the same specs for almost half what I paid now.

Oh, I paid 1300 for it that November, back when the 8800 GT was a super premium part and going for way way more. I was running out of time on my evga step-up. The other stuff was probably a bit more, too. Got a sweet deal on an NZXT case that's treated me great so far.

You can pretty much assuredly get it for less than a grand now.

I got this same exact error but I have a Radeon 9600 series graphics card.   I updated the drivers and now I got pass to the menu page.

I wish there was an edit button to edit the post.  Even though I got the game to work with my radeon 9600 (3-4 year old graphics card), it was very slow with choppy graphics.  The game was pretty much unplayable and I had already turn everything to the lowest graphic settings.

I think a $500 computer can pretty much run this game well.  It is quite a graphics extensive game.  I'm able to run WoW, Red Alert3 beta, and spore fine but not this game.

Demigod uses SM3.0.

It is entirely possible for games to have SM2.0 backups, or fallbacks, which are used in the case when a card doesn't support SM3.0 but Demigod currently doesn't use them.
