Game is unresponsive and slow.

micromanagement impossible

Not sure if this is a bug or just lack of optimizations, but i will post anyway. Also not sure if this has been mentioned already. If it has, move along. Nothing to see here.

The game feels very slow when i play. It takes one or two secs before the hero moves to where i want him to be. I have played quite a lot of games and all of them have been like this, so it's not just today. Today i also checked the box "single-click agressive" or what the exact text says. It got even worse! Just played one game, but Regulus sometimes didn't even move at all. He just continued to shoot. Pretty annoying when two enemy heroes are shooting at him.

It's not lag. It's just slow. I can tell that it's definetly not my computer that is too slow, because i know how this engine feels when it's too much (I'm a SupCom player from day 1). I have also tried to turn off all other programs except windows, and it doesn't change. Unless something radically changed from SupCom that is, but then again, if my system isn't enough for Demigod then i think the game will fail because i have a pretty mainstream rig.

My system is not the best out there, but good enough for several thousands of units in supcom on medium fidelity. Specs:

Windows vista business 32bit

Intel C2D E7200 @ 2,5hz

2gb ram

Asus Geforce 8600GT

Intel P965 based motherboard

When i play Demigod (and SupCom) i run it in 1024*768 with presets on low, but fidelity on medium. At first i played in 1024*768 with presets on high, and it got a bit better when i changed to what i have now, but not nearly good enough.

I have only played vs AI, so i don't really care, but in a multiplayergame this would make me stop playing. Micromanagement of your hero is essential for survival! I know it is beta 1. No need to point it out, thanks. Finally i wanna say that this beta certainly isn't fun, but i can clearly see the game's potential! Keep up the good work and we have a winner. :)

maybe its the 8600 GT. i put my settings to vsync off, aa 2, fidelity medium, shadows low and textures both high and the game is definatly playablle but seems alittle laggy. heres to hoping this can be improved!

It's probably due to there not being any optimisation that would have the game loading in lower res textures to memory.

There isn't really truely a "low" setting in the game right now, AFAIK.

Is the 8600GT 128mb, or 256mb?  If it's 128mb that'd probably be the problem.

Like the above poster has 128mb of ram in his 8600M.

i believe its actually 512mb

I have 512mb aswell.

But the game flows nice, i mean creeps and such move like they should, no stuttering and no regular lag. The only thing is that the hero moves 1 or 2 secs too late, or sometimes not at all. As i said i have played supcom with thousands of units and when it lags, it stutters. Or gamespeed slows down automatically.

A game like demigod should have absolute priority on hero movement. Screw graphics and everything else, hero movement should be instant or the entire thing will fail.

Yes, that option replaces move with attack-move. As such, he's not going anywhere unless there's nothing in range to attack first.

Re the general latency issue, is this while playing with other people? Is it the same or better when playing against the AI only?

l have only played against AI, cant be arsed to install hamachi because last time i did it screwed up all network connections in vista :P

Kryo you should change that agressive mode. Atm, it's 2 choices and none of them are good. Either your hero doesn't attack at all unless you babysit him, or he attacks everything and refuses to obey you.

I want a hero that attacks stuff automatically if it's within range, but moves when i tell him so. Like all units in every RTS out there does.

This is exactly what happens to me too, I dont believe it has smth to do with graphics, i tried already with minimum settings and normal, the gameplay is just not smoth.

Sometimes i click to move and its very slow to respond and start moving, althou moving is not the worse issue.

I right click on enemy unit or demigod to attack it and most times nothing happens, other times my demigod moves on top of the target and then starts attacking and only a few times he attacks as he sould.

With skills, like the fireball, i press shortcut to skill and click on target, sometimes he casts it nicely, other times he moves on top of the enemy target and only then casts it, other times it just wont cast it. i try multiple times but he just wont cast, i have to attack other target to get rid of the bug and cast fireball again.

On attack-move, i click attack-move in the ground at spot X, the demigod starts moving and starts attacking first creep in range, most of the times after killing the creep or creeps in range he lost the attack-move to spot X and just stays there, u have to order it again, and again, almost everytime he kills someone.

Another thing i thing could be greatly improved is the targeting system, what i mean is, i want to cast a targetted skill and some times, when there is lost of confusion, it get really hard to click on the correct target, even thou you have your mouse right on top of it, for instance Rook, that is not small, it happended to me several times in a row, just because he was standing next to a tower, the skill would always go for tower and not Rook.

I hope i could explain what i experience, will look more into this and hope to be more especific and explanatory next time.

Please keep this thread going because this is really gamebreaking, like someone before said, i dont mind because is against AI, but this is very bad for a competition game.

You can do an attack-move while in normal mode by alt-clicking, IIRC. Then if you want to abort and get out, just click normally.

yeah well... such special commands is usually only used by a few pros, this is a feature that should be for all

Hitting a and then left-clicking also does an attack move.  Thats pretty standard from any RTS I've played.  But anyone on to the actual potential for bugs.

"On attack-move, i click attack-move in the ground at spot X, the demigod starts moving and starts attacking first creep in range, most of the times after killing the creep or creeps in range he lost the attack-move to spot X and just stays there, u have to order it again, and again, almost everytime he kills someone."

I get that consistently (nearly everytime) on my rig which is crazy good.  GeForce 8800 GTS OC 256 MB GDDR3 , 8 gigs of 1066 DDR2 Ram, Vista-64bit.  3.0 Xtreme Intel Pentium dual core processor.

I think I also have the problem where my hero doesn't always move on the first command.  Yet I'm used to playing dota where you click rapidly a lot so I don't notice it as much as another play would who clicks once.

I also have this weird thing if I right click on an enemy my unit will attack it til it moves out of range (though not out of vision).  If I start shooting at max range on regulus and the rook takes just a little step back, my guy either starts attacking creeps or stops attacking all together.  Other times he'll attack the rook once or twice and even though the rook did not seem to move he'll change his target even though I gave no input. I posted this and at first I thought it was intended but maybe its not.

My computer is older & weaker than the OP's machine ... and I have not encountered any of the issues he has mentioned.

P4 (pre-dual-core HT) : 2.8 GHz

DDR-1 RAM : 2 GB

GeForce 6800 (basic AGP model w/ 512 MB vram)

The game-flow remains sufficiently fast & fluid even at a 1440 X 900 rez (while the OP has issues at 1024 X 768 !) ... as long as I turn off V-sync, shadows, and AA. (But now, I prefer to run in a stretched window on my 19-inch widescreen.)

My demigod is always responsive ... my main problem being his capacity to precisely target specific enemies when there are a lot of units in close quarters, at a fairly rapid pace.

I do not want to belittle the OP's experience. I just wish to report that my older machine runs the beta at a sufficiently fast, fluid & stable pace. Of course, I'm not going to declare that I have the best framerates ... but the game is never slow, choppy & unresponsive -- never !
