[FEEDBACK/IDEA] Hammer Smash Targeting Issues

When using Hammer Smash with the rook, I realize that sometimes, the rook misses with the hammer smash. Although the target is hit, it is only because of the AOE. It seems like if the rook has to rotate in order to hit the target, it doesn't rotate all the way, and initiates the skill before the target is directly in fornt of the rook, where the hammer falls down. Does this happen to anybody else?

EDIT: The idea part: If this is the case, then I think it would be better if the rook didn't use the skill until the target was directly in front of it.

Soooo you want the skill to always hit for you even if you aim it improperly?..

Wait, so you want to make it so the 1.2k damage mega attack never misses?

wait so u want rook to be a walking castle with the aim of a sniper who never misses making him completely overpowered?

The OP was not complaining that "hey, theres a MISS that was programmed into the game to mix things up, not fair!"

It was more of the issure where the Rook won't turn around and swing AT what you told him to. So if you activate the smash and click directly on what you want smashed, your Rook kind of turns to him, but not all the way.  That is actually somewhat of a frustrating bug if it was not intended.

Didn't really sound like the same thing that he was describing.

gr no edit.

And are you sure you aren't clicking wrong?  You need to click on someones FEET you actually aim at them.  If you click at thier head you're really clicking on the ground behind their head, I believe.

Right, the problem might stem from aiming at the right thing. I'm banking on the darn UI being upgraded to have the selected creep being highlighted. I'll jump on the game tonight and play around with it and see if I get the same thing when theres only one unit to target.

I am sorry if I was not clear. Jebobek said it better than I did. This happens even when you target something with the skill (yes, I am sure that I target a unit). Also, as Jebokek described in his first post in this thread, the rook "kind of turns to him, but not all the way." This is the same with stationary targets... if the rook missed with this attack because the targeted unit moved away, then I would not care about this. However, the fact is that it will miss things that are not moving... which is silly.

Yeah but when you said " then I think it would be better if the rook didn't use the skill until the target was directly in front of it." it made it sound like you wanted the game to play for you.

Oh well... all that matters is that others know the idea that I was trying to convey. That is the case, right?

i personaly would like the skill to be able to target the ground. that way i could hit what i wanted with the aoe, specally if there is not another demigod present in the mix

it ONLY targets the ground..

really it wont go for me unless i target a unit

The problem with this swordguyj is that the hammer does HUGE damage while the aoe that circles the Rook does less. So if the hammer itself targets mobs in an area you're getting too many units caught in the devastation. The hammer damage was designed to go after a single unit as of now because of balancing issues.

I suggest an alternate way to use the move, where you shift+click the ground and the demigod pounds down, so theres no major hammer damage but you get the reliable AOE on-demand. In fact shift+click has been suggested before for the whole game in general but I bring it up here because it would solve your problem.

My similar issue with the hammer ability is that you can't target anything in front of the Rook since he is so huge and we don't have a way to rotate the camera (that I know about.  PLEASE let me know if there is a way!!) to be able to view in front of you to help aim the hit so that it will be accurately placed.

That is the one thing that makes me mad when playing against the AI rooks.

I believe you can just fine.. as it's targeted through people..

To rotate the camera hold down the space bar

I think you can use insert and delete as well

Well you learn something new every day.

Did they post controls for Beta1 at all, by chance? I realize that they're not going to give us a full instruction manual but I would love to see the controls/changes they made in list-form.

There's a thread on them in general on the 1st or 2nd page.

Keyboard commands:

  • Use the SPACE BAR to control the view camera (i.e. hold space down while moving your mouse).
  • Use the T key to have the camera track on your Demigod.
  • Use the QWER keys to activate your abilities.

Yes he missed like 20 keys.  I don't think he was trying to make a complete list..
