Will Demigod support VOIP?

I am currently enjoying... I mean working hard on the current Beta (crashes and other normal headaches).  I realize that I have seen no indication that Demigod will have a VOIP system in the final release.  As this is to be a very PvP competitive game, there is nothing more enjoyable than to hear the scream of pain from your opponent.

Will Demigod support any type of VOIP?

Last I checked, there were no plans to integrate VOIP directly into the client.  Software like xfire, teamspeak and ventrilo are already well established and used by all sorts of people.  Run that in the background and you'll be golden :)

Yes you just have to install ventrillo first ;)

Vent is fine for organised matches, but doesn't help much for pub games. Want integrated voip.

Honestly, there are probably as many people who would outright refuse to use voice in public matches, as they don't care to hear random people trash-talking.

Well I always turn integrated VOIP off, but I doesn't see how that negates the people who like it?

Although I think a better idea would be to cut a deal to integrate one of the free VOIP packages into Impulse, assuming you're having something akin to a friends list.

This idea has been tried in CNC3/RA3 and has been near to compeltely useless and waste of resources. Vent + Teamspeak is fine :)

I disagree. In team games like this, communication over VoIP is key. I don't even play SupCom : FA anymore unless I am playing with people I know .. just because it's the only way to play with VoIP. Anyways, VoIP isn't for trash talking ... hell you shouldn't even be able to talk to your opponent with it. Hmm ... I wonder if this forum has polls ...

If the majority of users don't use it, then it's just lost budget that could have gone into features everyone can enjoy. And licensing VOIP packages for integration into your games isn't cheap.

Thanks to all for your comments.  I have both Teamspeak and Xfire, so a 3rd Party VOIP is easy to setup.  My real interest is that I have seen other games (Hellgate comes to mind) where Xfire VOIP is actually integrated into the game, thus eliminating the need to start the application before playing the game.

I definitely hate Xbox360 online where people just randomly swear and blabber

But I am supportive of VoIP if we can blacklist people

I'm a big fan of how Teamfortress 2 does it, with integrated voice chat simply by holding the V key.  I'm not so much a fan when servers set it to be universal instead of team based, which tends to cause chat to degenerate into a bunch of idiots smack talking toward each other (with the only real result being a complete breakdown of tactics and the effective demonstration of the participants' lack of IQ).  However, when it works properly (ie when limited by team) it is a wonderful tool, and the ease of using it is just wonderful.

However, if there isn't enough demand for it then by all means use the resources that would have gone into implementing integrated VOIP to make more/better demigods, more/better/different maps, etc.

I agree.  I think in a game that requires team tactics and coordination, speaking among you team is essential.  To me it seems almost unbelievable not to have voice chat integrated, but I am spoiled by steam voice chat.  I think it is really important for team chat in this game if you really want it to suceed.  It increases the attachment to the team and makes the game a more social experience that people then become more attached to.  This is in addition to how invaluable it can be to team tactics.

I would like to see it added or have a system were teams can know how to contact each other via a third party software.  To me this is a much important feature.

No worries, just join a game. Alt-Tab out of the game. You can get a free 24 hour server using TS or Vent. Just have everyone join up to your server and make sure they get on the right team. Then go back into the game and start. Yeah, it'll be hell trying to get everyone together on it but it's alot better than no support at all.

Maybe if it becomes common place in the game, GPG and Stardock might realize how important communication is to the enjoyment of a team game.
