[Bug] Beta 2D - Extreme Lag Camera/Combat

Despite not having the best gaming computer in the world, I've been able to play the prior builds of this game just fine - until now. After several tests at various resolutions while playing alone against CPU with Fog of War off with max Demigods I've come to some conclusions. I've informed Yarlen and Cari_Elf of these issues via IRC. They suggested I used Forced Windows Mode, and I did, but it didn't resolve this issue.

Camera:

I've come to the conclusion that the Camera is one of the problems. Eveytime I move the Camera, my FPS plumets and my lag increases. When other areas of lag occure, the Camera only compounds the problem making it very frustrating to play.

Combat Animations:

When the game begins and all the units are moving freely across the screen, including all ten Demigods and their minions - everything seems to run nice and smooth, even on High Graphics. However, the very instant combat begins, my FPS is cut in half and suddenly the game begins lagging. Moving the camera compounds upon the issue, making it impossible to play.

Updated Findings FPS/Memory:

On High

Pre-Combat: 20fps/780,000k

Post-Combat: 2fps/801,000k

On Medium

Pre-Combat: 20fps/760,000k

Post-Combat: 3fps/771,000k

On Low

Pre-Combat: 25fps/705,500k

Post-Combat: 3fps/712,500k

Additional Notes:

Nothing I can do can resolve this issue. I've reinstalled the game, I've redownloaded and reinstalled all drivers. Everything is up-to-date. Not hardware is damaged. I've also tweaked my Graphic's Card settings in several different ways. I even turned down/off sound, nothing is getting this lag to stop.

During Death:

Additonally, I've found that when I'm dead the game works butter smooth (on low only). But when my Demigod is on the field, the game does to hell in a hand basket.

We're investigating.

Wonder if it's a Geforce thing. What's the date of your drivers?

Most recent Drivers Frogboy, I installed them yesterday.

Across the board, I'm seeing a pattern of 3fps reguardless of my settings. This is unplayably low.

Same here.

Were able to play with ~30fps on low settings with beta build 2c. Now I´ve ~10 (the sim speed is fine. +3/+5)

Got a 7600GT.

I'm gonna third this, also with nvidia.   I knew something was wrong when I was lagging 1v1 vs a computer.  I don't get the 3fps, but I do get occasional slowdowns that seem a lot like net lag.

Here's my system info:

In the previous build, everything was silky smooth, now, I get little hitches when I change from one part of the map to another. I'm using an ATi 4850. Might be related, might not, either way there seems to be some congestion in the graphics engine.

Are you running any kind of FPS Monitor or is this "it feels like 3 FPS"?  Just wondering, because if you aren't it might be nice to run one and see what the numbers really are.

I run the ingame FPS monitor. How do you think I got the numbers man? :)

Thanks for confirmation of competence.

i noticed that the game would run smooth until angels starting to appear maybe there is a bug with them?

Got the same problem here.

Strangly, even with 3 FPS, the game is more fun then the DoW2 BETA. :S

Should i cry or cheer?!

Cry for DOW2 and Cheer for Demigod.  I was also disappointed with DOW2.  I am a big fan of DOW and COH, but I have quickily learned a lot of the standard build orders and am already sick of it.  When executing your build order perfectly and exploiting the best tactics on 8 maps is close to down in 2 days, that is a bad sign.

you need to play against _PINK then.

Got the same issue here, on Vista x64 on a 2.2 GHz Core 2 Duo with a 8400GS. This hardware ran beta 2C fine, no issues, no lag. With 2D, it starts lagging like crazy as soon as lots of additional units start coming onscreen. I don't know if tesb above is correct, but it definitely did seem to start happening right around the time when angels started being spawned in.

I've a friend with the same issue, at least i think it is.

He has the same fps no mather the video configuration.

I tried to monitor everything while the game was running and i found the the CPU is allways on the 100% usage during the game, allways toped.

He doesnt have the same specs u guys have but its not that bad PC either:

Athlon 64 3500+

NVIDIA 9600gts

2gb ram

windows XP

I have experienced stuttering. I regret I am not sure what triggers it.

My *guess* would be it occurs every time an A.I. Demigod makes a decision about their next course of action. The game literally hung multiple times while I was resting at the healing obelisk thing, with my camera focussed from afar on a friendly Rook. The duration of the hang was about 2 full seconds.

Is perhaps some synchronization multiplayer code playing an unnecessary role in A.I.-only games? As others testify, this is only in Beta 2D.

I was not zoomed into the Rook (not the only occassion of this bug, mind you). Sometimes this sort of thing is associated with loading high res textures as objects get closer (think IL-2 Sturmovik as planes transition from far to medium range on a ram-limited videocard/system); since I was not zoomed in, I suspect this is not the problem, although I could be wrong and the game could be loading up super-high res textures regardless of my camera distance. That might explain why the bug seems to focus around Demigods themselves.

(Note: this was early game, without Angels or even Priests...)

I'm getting the occasional little hitch/stutter as well, although the FPS generally remains constant.  I'm on a ATI, though, and sounds like the FPS slowdown is nvidia related...

From the feedback, I will agree that it looks NVidia Related.

I got the same problem with the low FPS max around 20fps on low Setting, thats why i cant realy play multiplayer.

Got the following System :

Athlon Xp 64 3600+

ATi Radeon HD 4850

2 Gig Ram

Win XP

Hope to see a fix soon >_>

So its not NVIDIA related.

From OrleanKnight description and from what i see in my friends computer it is not the same problem, 20 fps is still playable, my friend gets 3fps max after fight begins, in any resolution or with any graphics options.

I got this problem as well, my specs are

Core 2 duo E6400 (2.1 ghz)

4 gigs ram

8800GTX OCed

Beta 2 C and previous versions were fine but this latest version has given me the same problems that orleon knight refers to.
