Skills With Prerequisites

Right now all skills are gotten in a lineal way you only need certain level to get them. What if you make that into an skill tree like Diablo or WoW ones, where you can only pick an skill when you have a certain combination of others: ie, to geet rook's boulder you should get divine strengh 1 plus lvl 2 hammer.

Once the game has a wider skill variety for every hero, taht would be a good way to impede metagame-breaker builds.

I've made many suggestions to make more skills and diversify them, but each build the skill trees stay relatively static. =(

     Given the limited number of activated skills(4) I'd say this isn't viable, and would only further limit the number of "good" builds for each demigod. Each already has only one or two possible builds, and this would even further reduce that number. This would only be viable if more skills were added, which seems unlikely this far into production.

skill trees only lower your possibilities, forcing you to purchase some skills before some others. It is a cheap way to balance a game (like tech trees are for rts). I like the direction given to demigod regarding that problem (even if i would apreciate some more skills per demigod.
Since they are used for many games i totally understand that you are quite confused when you do not see them in demigod, but really it is far better in order to have a wide range of builds.

Mmm. Furthermore, if the devs were to implement more prerequisite requirements for a wider array of skills (We already have SOME high-end skills that work that way, after all.) they might run the risk of creating a complicated and distracting level-up system, that may forcibly draw the player's attention away from the ensuing battle. In a game like Demigod, I suspect that it's probably best not to make levelling up overly complicated or complex. If you're forced to sit down and ponder your skill-path for more than a few seconds, the enemy may just get the drop on you... :(O

@stratobot

Demigods should have more than one or two builds considering there are only 8 of them.  Also I think the OP meant to have passives linked to skills to have a choice to get different abilities when you pick an activatable skill.

@luminance

After you've played your first few games and get good its not really an issue that skill trees are rather large.  Also you can pick skills when you return to base or are moving from one place to another.

The game runs the risk of becoming stale if there are only a few limited builds and only a few demigods, plus it is also fun to come up with new combinations of moves each game and experiment to fit your playstyle the best.

End of DarkZakurazz's quote

Making more prereqs would make less diversity, not more.

I've always said since the begining that it'd be bad.  The linear progression is fine.  Really, there is no tree..  They, for some reason, made it where instead of clicking a level up button by the skill you click another one.

I guess to make it look like there is 30 skills instead of only 8.

What is needed is more skills, not more requirements for the few there are.  Skill level 1, level 2, level 3, level 4 is only 1 skill, not 4.  -_-
