Quoting clownkill, reply 21To the people that say you have to have steam running to play your games, You are completly wrong. I use Offline mode almost all the time.

What's the point of offline mode if you have to go online first? And even in offline mode... steam is still running, is it not?you don't have to login first. If you have no internet it will give you the option to go into offline mode. I start everyone of my games from the steam. I have the impule games in my steam as well. Much better app then the impulse app.

That's why I said I've only had problems. Whenever I try and use offline mode, it forgets my account somehow and it asks me to connect so I can sign on my account and then go offline. It's just never worked for me. Again though, I haven't tried it in a really long time, maybe they've done something to fix it.

You still didn't answer my question though. Even in offline mode, isn't the steam program still running?

No steam isn't running when in offline mode only its control panel is. Steam is the online component. I like using the Steam App because I can see and add any game to it.

I like the Impulse control panel as well, But it is very slow and seems like it is web based. Bad for people that have dial up speeds like i do in this touwn.

I have to agree with most PRO Steam comments here as well as 2 CON Steam comments...

However even agreeing with a few of the CON's I will not purchase this game until it comes on Steam, if not i can deal with single player pirated edition (no i havent yet and actually dont plan to since I can go to the LAN center close by and play it their for nothing since i fix their PC's, but considering the HUGE numbers of seeders for the torrents avliable it wouldnt be hard)

impulse is a good idea... but Steam still does it better... also I rather hate the EA Downloader but I do have all games I have purchased through EA on it just because of its rather dull and simplistic nature... so heres the score:

1st: Steam

2nd: EA Downloader

3rd: Direct2Drive

4th: Impulse

5th: XBL

6th: PSN

(a side note... my company/website that I havent had the chance to work on is EMPulseGaming... trippy had it since 2004)

Putting it on steam would lead to heaps more sales imo, but i wouldnt do it until the multiplayer lobby side of things was 100% solid. It's a bit of a mess right now.

and just to add something else, steam asks for 30% of sales... I wonder why? could it be the support? could it be the bandwidth? could it be the advertizing? or could it be all of the above...I (read: DONT) wonder

Anyway, I like someone else's idea, charge that extra 30% for the game through Steam... Yes the majority of people will say I can get it cheaper elseware and actually DO so BUT! BAM (read: BOOM HEADSHOT) theirs sales right their anyway because of the massive outreach STEAM has thats not all but its the majority, people like myself who really hate multiple Loaders and LOVE Steam's simplicity/functionality will GLADLY pay that extra 30%, additionally Steam plays hosts to millions of customers (the number of SteamID's DONT lie), even if only 100,000 people bought thats still a huge market lost because GPG/Stardock wants to play monopoly due to the wasted money on the impulse launch platform (which i will admit, COULD become great but its just not their and feels like it will take more then 1-2 years to make it so)

Sorry GPG/Stardock... just my preference

*as a note I tested STEAM when they where coming out, they have had ALOT of bumps, bruses and BAD juju (read: problems) but overall they have been the most... wear&tear CDS I have seen and have adjusted as such

because GPG/Stardock wants to play monopoly due to the wasted money on the impulse launch platform

well, Impulse wasn't released specifically for Demigod. It was also supposed to be available for the retail launch of Sins of a Solar empire (feburary 2008). You may want read this post http://frogboy.impulsedriven.net/article/345381/Impulse_Road_Map to have a better view about Impulse.

BTW, Impulse isn't only for games. It is also for stardock customizing applications (Object desktop ....) .

While I understand its not specifically designed only for Demigod, their only (at least that I have found) defense is: they are against Steams current model and theirfor will only push it through Impusle (as opposed to using other CDS)

Additionally while it isnt only for games, as a PC tech for the last 12 years I dont use their customizing applications, I do it myself without any assistance from 3rd party's

(also of note, since it wasnt on Steam, I bought Sins of a Solar empire on D2D)

Sins isn't on D2D. *cough*.

Voice chat with overlay.

Steam overlay does blow the pants off impulse's :/

Sins of a Solar Empire isn't availbale on D2D.

Demigod will be on Steam right after Team Fortress 2 is on Impulse. :)

thats right, thats why its not installed, its a boxed copy... my mistake... however again i point out "thats why its not installed" so funny

*as a note, asking for TF2 on Impulse is retarded, if you have ever read some forum posts players use a different program to find match's and do online games, TF2 and other source games are tightly integrated into Steam and its resources to PREVENT THE NEED FOR 3rd party programs, which again I point out, Demigod apparently NEEDS until they fix their MP f-up's, which again ill point out, any Source release's HAVENT HAD...

At least Steam doesn't store my passwords in plain-text. lol :3

Impulse stores passwords in plain text? You've got to be kidding me.. that's enough to ask for a refund of all games I have on that platform just for the security risk. imho.

Just chiming in here without having read much, but:

I would seriously buy the game AGAIN if it came on Steam. Impulse is probably ok and all, but if I had the choice I would stick to Steam as it has all my other games too. It's just silly to fragment them all over the various services.

2nd: EA Downloader

Ugh, EA downloader is the worst. You have to pay extra to keep your game available over EA downloader. And even so, sooner or later your game will be removed from the list, causing you to loose the game if you have not made a backup of the game somewhere.

EA is greedy like hell. First buy the game, then pay extra to keep the game.

Impulse it way better in my opinion.

TF2 and other source games are tightly integrated into Steam and its resources

As Demigod is tightly integrated into Impulse and its resources.

As Demigod is tightly integrated into Impulse and its resources.

Unless I am mistaken, Demigod isn't tightly integrated into Impulse since it use the ImpulseReactor which doesn't requires to have Impulse launched (or even installed)

At some point I'm amazed and amused that such an obvious trolling thread should elicit so many official responses in such a short amount of time.

Well, for those of you new to the way Stardock operates, yes, very high level people both read and post on threads here.  Quite frequently, in fact!

Sorta, but that's not exactly what I meant.

There's the Impulse overlay built in. On steam, what, you'd have Steam and Impulse overlay? The reactor stuff shows games on the Impulse client, and allows you to join right off that without needing to launch the game and sit in its custom lobby. Patching is also done exclusively through Impulse.

So, while you don't *need* the Impulse client to play, it's hard to say that Demigod isn't tightly integrated with Impulse features.

Neither does Impulse.
